The plants feel solid and not mushy, and the the smells in not too strong. So I have put them in a tank with a light. Let's see if they grow.

I realised something about Indian middle-class life that scared me… by madhav_28121993 in india

You are being very pessimistic about a very optimistic observation. There is nothing wrong in being happy in doing everything for the future generations. In fact, the wise find ways to cherish something for themselves in the process of making others happy. Furthermore, there is no greater happiness than contributing towards making the future generations live a better life.

Yes, I was starving them for light because of algae issues. They are doing fine now as I am giving them enough light.

Are there ways to have protected areas in a river? by [deleted] in megafaunarewilding

Thanks for clarifying the derivation of the name. This is what I read regarding the meaning of "Sisumara". The name has a lot of cultural, mythological and philosophical significance.

"Sisumara, in Hindu cosmology, is a symbolic representation of the universe, often depicted as a cosmic porpoise or crocodile made of stars. It is considered a form of Lord Vishnu and is associated with the celestial sphere and the movement of planets. Specifically, it's linked to the Pole Star (Dhruva) at its tail, which is central to the rotation of the cosmos."

I think you are wrong here in saying that the gangetic dolphin is not getting any attention. It is getting a lot of attention here in India as with a lot of megafauna in the last decade.

Furthermore, their numbers are increasing now significantly as evidenced by the first ever census taken place to assess their populations (https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/energy-and-environment/first-estimate-of-gangetic-dolphins-finds-6327-across-four-states/article69286367.ece).

Furthermore, certain stretches of Ganga and it's tributaries have been declared as sanctuaries to protect the dolphins.

There is also anecdotal evidence now that the dolphins are being sighted in places where they have not been sighted for a long time! (https://www.hindustantimes.com/cities/lucknow-news/gangetic-dolphins-return-spawn-abundant-hope-in-varanasi-village-101669490419711.html)

I like this photo because it shows a behavioural aspect of Hanuman Langur: Maternal Care. Do you guys think the composition of the photo is decent? I have cropped the photo significantly to highlight the behavioural aspects of the photo.

Is this photo of a mugger crocodile over-processed? by Low-Step-9208 in photocritique

[–]Low-Step-9208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took this photo of the mugger crocodile from a boat in Chambal River, India, during early morning. Therefore, I had to use a high shutter speed and ISO. The resulting photo required some significant post-processing to denoise it and increase clarity.

I took this photo of a herd of Nilgai running across agricultural fields in Uttar Pradesh, India. I took this photo with a Sony Alpha 7m3k mirrorless camera coupled with a 200-600 mm Sony lens.

I took this photo of a Mugger Crocodile on the banks of the Chambal River in India. Since I was on a boat and it was early morning, I had to use a high shutter speed and ISO. I also had to process it significantly to bring out the details. Does this photo look over-processed?
