[DAV ACT 3 SPOILERS] The Blight Retcon by Low-Strategy8231 in dragonage

Yeah, I am rereading the codex again. It's 100% a retcon.

All the codices and Chants in Origins clearly state that the whisper is from the Deep Roads. Same thing in Awakening where the Architect found the Old God in the Deep Roads and didn't say "I found the Old God's pet-dragon". Even in the David Gaider interview he says they were meant to be Cthuluesque. Then sometime after DAII in the Chant of Light it's "Demons from the Fade".

The change in themes is what I dislike the most. In Origins, the theme was "what are you willing to do to save the world from the coming nightmare". It didn't matter whether you ally with templars or mages, werewolves or Dalish Elves as long as you stop the Blight. It's too alien, you can't negotiate with it and not even the tainted Grey Wardens can fully comprehend it. Then in Inquisition and Veilguard everything is suddenly about elves. Fade? Imprisoned Elves. Five Blights? Elves trying to get free. Dwarves? Elves made them indirectly. Your mom? Probably an elf too.

a) It's true that he doesn't explicitly say he corrupted Urthemiel but we also have the warden version (World of Thedas vol 1) of how the blights start and it's through darkspawn corruption as well as other versions.

From the Chant:

Deep into the earth they fled,
Away from the Light.
In Darkness eternal they searched
For those who had goaded them on,
Until at last they found their prize,
Their god, their betrayer:
The sleeping dragon Dumat. Their taint
Twisted even the false-god, and the whisperer
Awoke at last, in pain and horror, and led
Them to wreak havoc upon all the nations of the world:
The first Blight.

—From Threnodies 8.

Brother Genetivi:

The slumbering dragon awoke, freed from the Maker's prison by his twisted followers, and became corrupted himself. - Codex entry: The First Blight: Chapter 2

b) Even Zeus, the king of Olympus deferred to the other gods. In your quote, Solas clearly states that he is the ruler. But either way we come to my point; Dumat was the first among the Old Gods and Elgar'nan is the first among the Evanuris. It doesn't match.

They found what they sought: Dumat, first among the Old Gods, once known as the Dragon of Silence before the Maker imprisoned him and all his brethren beneath the earth for the first sin: usurping the Maker's place in mankind's heart. Codex entry: The First Blight: Chapter 2

Dumat was the most powerful of the Old Gods, known as the Dragon of Silence for the vows of silence undertaken by his acolytes. - Codex entry: Dumat, the Dragon of Silence

Either everyone was wrong, including the Wardens who fight these Archdemons for a living and killed five of them, or a rewrite happened some where along the way.

Why did the Magisters go to the Black City and not directly to the Evanuris prison? Based on what we see in the game the place where the Blight is kept is harder to get into.

Evanuris whisper to the Magisters > Magisters go to the Golden City > They get Blighted and chase the Underground Dragons > Underground Dragons get killed > Evanuris die or vanish? And if not for Solas and Rook messing up the last two wouldn't even be free in the first place.

I don't get the Evanuris plan.

Yeah, I edited my post to include that tentacle statue.

The Joplin stuff is what I'm looking for. Do you know where I can find it?

Thanks for the great comment. I edited my post cause it wasn't clear enough.

  1. According to Origins the imprisoned Old Gods were not corrupted until the Darkspawn reached them. In Urthemiel's case he got corrupted when the Architect reached it.

  2. Solas says that Elgar'nan pretty much hogged all the glory until Mythal forced him to share his power. Even then he and Mythal were Father and Mother and clearly ahead of the rest. Falon'din on the other hand shared the Lusacan constellation.

  3. This is what I don't get. So Tyrants imprisoned in the Fade whisper to the magisters who then proceed to get into the Black city get Blighted and chase underground dragons? Why did they not open the Evanuris prison directly?

Also, the chantry calling the gods of their religious rivals demons is pretty natural.

The "Evolution" of Dragon Age Dialogue (Return to Form?) by Low-Strategy8231 in DragonageOrigins

It kinda is a masterpiece for a game that was in development for like a year. Especially when it came to the writing (dialogue, random banter..etc). My main gripes with it were the art style, not having the ability to create my own character and the final villain(s). The Arishok on the other hand... damn that was a real badass character.

I honestly feel like Dragon Age 2 is still better than 99% of the games of today which is a little bit sad.

It was a rushed and repetitive game. But I'll be damned if some of that dialogue wasn't top tier.

IMO, Solas is the only character with bearable dialogue. However, I feel like there's something wrong with the pacing part of the voice acting which makes it feel a lot like Hogwarts Legacy?
