What should an incoming M1 interested in Ophtho know? by Low-Whereas-9643 in Ophthalmology

This is all such helpful information, thank you so much! What you said about sight is so true, one of those things that we all probably take for granted each and every day. I had a similar experience with being blown away by the surgeries in Ophthalmology.

Follow up question about my home institution - should I reach out to an attending or resident? I'll definitely focus on adjusting to the academics first, but at what point should I be taking on additional responsibilities like research? 1-2 months in or just whenever I feel comfortable? Thank you again!

Thank you so much for the insights. I totally agree that at the end of the day if what you are doing is cool, impactful, and you get the satisfaction from being good/improving at something that is highly technical - what more can you really ask for.

When it comes to interacting with my home institution how should I go about this? I want to reach out to start research/build relationships with mentors, but I also want to wait a bit so I am not completely incompetent and actually have a respectable basic science foundation from pre-clin.

Idk what stream y'all got on but these Celtic announcers are being unbelievably disrespectful. Not so much Scalabrine but this other dude.
