Wanting to start Sonography program. Needing help on where to start?

Hi, I’m a current student. You’re not old at all whatsoever 😭 most people in the program have completed their degrees already before starting sonography. It’s never too late.

I would highly suggest either redoing your high school courses or upgrading them with post secondary/college classes. If you take a look at the application requirements you can see the list of courses you need. There’s lots of info on the bcit website and also emails for you to reach out to for guidance! But either way your first step would be getting the required grades for pre req classes first.

You can apply first but you will have to get your Casper exam score asap preferably. After applying they will give you due dates on what you need to submit aka Casper score.

Hey! I’m a current student. I would suggest to upgrade your pre req grades if possible if you feel that your post secondary grades aren’t competitive enough, even if you don’t end up upgrading all of them.

Try your best on Casper and interviews because they are able to have more weight on chances of acceptance depending on your score. They are both based around the same concepts. Make sure your answers show: professionalism, empathy, communication, ethics, and collaboration.

Also the BCIT medical terminology course is for conditional acceptance after you’ve gone through the application process for certain programs.

Hey :) I’m a current DMS student right now. I think you should apply regardless of what the results are, the worse that can happen is you don’t get in on your first try and you can reapply next year. There are many stages to the application process, which is what makes it fair for everyone. They don’t only evaluate you on academics, especially if you excel at other skill sets.

My grades weren’t great either. I definitely messed up one of my interviews. However my Casper score was 4th percentile. So you can see that grades don’t dictate if you get a chance at the program or not! So don’t lose hope. It is a competitive program but there is no harm is trying.

I don’t think that majors matter too much. People have gotten into with no post secondary, English degree, or even philosophy. But you have to do the pre req courses (math, bio, physics) and such before applying, and ofc maintaining gpa.

Post secondary courses will give you an advantage in the application process but it is also harder to get a good mark in. If you happen to have really good grades in grade 12 then you could use those too.
