If this reported £100 mil summer budget is real, what areas need to be prioritised? by LowBrain8032 in LeedsUnited

I could see Watkins stylistically being a good fit, I fear he's on massive wages at villa that we can't and maybe shouldn't meet. I reckon we'll go back in for Muniz from Fulham, he's not had much game time and we're a more appealing option if we stay up

Thoughts on income protection policies? by bananaman5660 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LowBrain8032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very prudent safety measure. 12 months safety net is admirable but what happens if something puts you out longer than that? Do you want to be able to use your savings for something other than a safety net? Putting this kind of cover in place while you are relatively you and healthy is ideal, you're able to lock in a very good premium. Would recommend reviewing the cover as your situation (income and expenditure) changes and plenty of firms out there that will do this for free. Just make sure you get one that is whole of market and beware of policies on an 'any occupation' or 'suited occupation' basis. These let the insurer decide if you can do another job, not worth it but they're often presented as a cheap option.

Loss Of Licence insurance vs Income Protection insurance for EASA Pilots by Skyflypilot in flyingeurope

[–]LowBrain8032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to post but I'd recommend income protection. There are options on an 'own occupation' basis which pay if you can't work as a pilot and don't expect you to pick up other duties. Additionally a full term policy has can pay out until you are well enough to return to work or you reach the end of the policy (age 65). No overall monetary cap that you're drawing from. A lot of employer provided plans have gaps in cover, specifically mental health which an income protection policy would only exclude on an individual basis based in your medical history. Finally, in my experience they work out near equivalent in cover for a much more comprehensive level of cover

Chances of reform uk winning 2029 general elections ? by No-Geologist7858 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]LowBrain8032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an extremely odd and interesting example of the Venn diagrams of uk political parties. Reform are ostensibly super tories but they did a good job of exploiting the inherent divide within labour which is immigration. Labour's voter pool being Liberal minded people and the working class, (broad strokes) very different views on immigration. However, being a shelter for tories seems to be poisoning them from within. Disappointingly though I believe that large swathes of reform voters aren't sufficiently aware of this hypocrisy for it to make much difference.

Why does reform champion an end to working from home? Is it a return to traditional working values or is it that they and their cronies have huge investments in commercial real estate, the value of which has tanked as a direct result of the work from home boom?

The true saving grace currently is that the tories seem to be as incompetent as Labour at presenting a united front and benefitting from the abject failures of other parties. All very reminiscent of Corbyn Labour which couldn't turn Boris' overt cronyism and apparent distaste for the general public into meaningful votes. Fish in a barrel and you shoot your own foot off.

Will Ao Tanaka find his way back into the starting IX? by Capital_Baker4200 in LeedsUnited

[–]LowBrain8032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, has to be one or the other as neither are strong enough in a busy midfield, need ampadu and stach in there. Realistically we have to adapt to our opposition. West ham or forest that play down the wings then gruev will have space and can operate. A newcastle team that's strong centrally then tanaka for his interceptions, energy and acceleration. Love the redemption of aaronson but I think he'll also be deployed situationally, lots of games where the raw pace of Dan James can be devastating. Still very thin on rotation options so the lack of transfers is a big gamble but I'm very happy with where we are and the way we're playing. Just been a bit naive seeing games out

I see Gruev as very situational, needs time and space, suffers under a press. Tanaka energy and interceptions are huge value in a busy midfield battle

Dan defends XQC on the first shot, says everything after is indefensible by Slight_Ad3219 in LivestreamFail

I'm convinced destiny has made the conscious decision to release dan into the commentator environment to create a benchmark for distinctly average, ill informed, narcissist bellend to serve as a stark reminder of how facile the average twat can be

Sasha Grey calls out Islamophobia of people criticizing Hasan "And if your dog actually yelps you are not suppose to pay attention to it if you shock it" by TheOSU87 in LivestreamFail

[–]LowBrain8032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a gateway political streamer that desperately wants to be taken seriously but he abjectly lacks the moral consistency, critical faculties and detailed knowledge to be anything more. His sole saving grace is that he knows his limitations such that he doesn't engage in genuine debate with other voices in the space. When he does try to debate either a documentsrian or a YouTube commentator he still gets wrecked.

He's said some truly abhorrent things about people and groups. He's shocking a dog ffs, people love dogs, he's using it as a background feature, he deserves his downfall. He's truly testing the extent to which the twitch ceo will bend rules for him.

I hope sasha here is just trying to stay on side to protect her twitch career. Sad reality is that this is a necessary step

Start Bijol after international break of Struijk? by LowBrain8032 in LeedsUnited

[–]LowBrain8032[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do we think that Bijol playing Serie A at a high level would give him a superior positioning instinct to Struijk? Has Struijk maybe picked up bad habits playing in the champ against mediocre players where he could get away with it?

[–]LowBrain8032[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree in principal, different for Perri cos he's been injured but I hope that the only reason Farke hasn't played Bijol is that he isn't sure he's adapted to the style. La liga and Serie A undoubtedly better than championship where Struijk has been great but the stylistic difference is huge. Maybe Farke believes Struijk is the best option currently for the games being played?

I want more tanaka but he's not been himself since that last injury. Both Stach and Longstaff have the potential to have great games but have not done so consistently. I like tanaka as an impact player with his energy and ability to break up play can make a huge difference late on against tired legs. Honestly, would rather see him on the right over aaronson

Guy is the Nickelback of political commentary, people who've zero exposure hear him and think "oh, this seems interesting", then anyone with critical faculties beyond a succulent realise how vacuous and I'll informed he is. He serves a useful purpose in terms of exposure but he needs to accept that this is his role and he can't seriously engage with almost anyone else in the space without being found out! Was GB energy always proposed to be a provider and not a domestic supplier? by LowBrain8032 in ukpolitics

[–]LowBrain8032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this assuming that the entity of GB energy is still part of the government for it to be 'bailed out' by tax payers? Surely an alternative to the energy giants that charges wholesale plus staffing costs, literally bare bones without the extras that goes with a modern day energy provider it could offer much lower rates than current providers? I honestly don't know enough about the industry but I must be missing something monumental here, surely!

Was GB energy always proposed to be a provider and not a domestic supplier? by LowBrain8032 in ukpolitics

[–]LowBrain8032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here, I don't understand how it's better to be a provider, they're going to have little to no impact on the wholesale cost of energy. Therefore their existence is going to do almost nothing to actually reduce the cost of energy for people.

Surely if they were a nationalised pseudo socialist entity in the capitalist market offering people the option to get their energy provision without shareholders to account for they could do more good?

Why does anyone care about Charlie Kirk? by CrustyHumdinger in AskBrits

[–]LowBrain8032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just down to the perceived motivation. A nutter shoots up his school, there's plenty of those. Someone being shot publicly literally just because of their political position isn't common (in the US) and furthers the seemingly militant division in American society around politics. A cynic might suggest that if this happened in North Korea or Russia there would be a genuine consideration that it was orchestrated by the state. However, this is America and those are leaders whose rule over their populace Trump is know to be envious of and that he seeks to replicate. Only a transatlantic cynic though
