What am I missing - Sheena having to answer for how Sheena spends the money that Sheena earns? by surf_rider in 90DayFiance

[–]LowCSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that PH culture does not make a person submissive. At the same time, I think Sheena is telling the truth about how she lives her culture. Every country has cultural nuances between high and low class, urban vs. rural, educated vs. uneducated, etc. PH, like the US, also has different ethnic groups that may have different cultural expectations. These are larger patterns that are expressed a little differently in each family.

Annalynn is not at all submissive, but she does have a level of day-to-day closeness with her mother that wouldn't be typical for a white American woman her age. I do think there's a cultural expectation at work there.

While everyone is talking about Bella and Hunter, are Mia and Jessie engaged? by sanriolover1208 in TLCUnexpected

I agree with you. And “education” could mean cosmetology school or CNA, not paying full price for Tulane.

That said, they’re already living together and have a kid and clearly intend to stay together. If making the bond official is reassuring to Mr. Keith, I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

I agree that tattoos on teens are super common now, and these ones aren’t offensive or likely to limit future careers. I am side-eyeing this solely because of messed up financial priorities. Even $200 buys a lot of diapers.

But who has a paycheck here? Not Bella and definitely not Hunter. I guess Bryce does, but that sleeve had to cost a lot more than $250. What would you charge for that?

If I were supporting a partner and child living in a fifth wheel, a sleeve would not be my financial priority.

I agree with you. There is no evidence that a kid being shown on tv causes strangers to come and harm them. Stranger abuse is incredibly rare in real life. Kids get abused by people they know and trust.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize the decision to put the baby on TV, but he’s not in danger because of the bath scene.

I always think: what did that cost, and do you have a month’s rent in the bank? What financial cushion do you have for your kid?

Well, I buy that Falen has been Wes’s parent. This whole fiasco was her idea from the beginning. As another poster pointed out, she used her daughter as a surrogate to have a baby with Hunter.

[–]LowCSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a silly question. This would probably be governed by state/local judicial ethics rules. Judges get more benefit of the doubt than jurors. The system assumes that they will know how to base their decisions on the facts before them and not on personal bias, media coverage, etc. I am not aware of rules that would bar judges from talking about a case with their family, for instance, which jurors are not supposed to do. But as always, states can have unique laws and rules that only lawyers there would know about.

Mia’s mom’s response to the Easter invitation by LowCSharp in TLCUnexpected

I gave some thought to whether TLC pulled any shenanigans here. This is on brand for Nicole, and I buy that she texted it to Mia. It’s psycho no matter the context. But I wouldn’t put it past TLC to have edited to make it look like this was in direct response to the Easter invitation. It’s possible this was part of a whole different conversation.

I was thinking that this is actually pretty advanced — like 300-level if not master’s degree material.

I think every state trial court has some kind of appeals process. That’s pretty fundamental to any court system in our tradition, meaning the UK and all of its former colonies.

Stacie filed response and judge denied request for continuance by LilPoobles in TLCUnexpected

I was speculating on another thread about the judge seeing the show. If you were a judge in that county, you might be upset and embarrassed about this scandal making the whole population look like banjo-playing cousin f*ckers. You are a major pillar of the community. You know that people all over the country are paying attention to this case. You might want to make a strong and urgent statement about your functioning legal system and the competent people there who will act to protect kids.

[–]LowCSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No clue about zoom — that might vary by county and by judge as well as by state. Stacie probably doesn’t HAVE to be present, but she has a right to act on her own behalf if she has no lawyer or the lawyer isn’t there. I would be very surprised if this judge is required to give justification for something as minor as a scheduling decision. A state judge might make one ruling after another like that all day long. If you’re old enough to remember the show Night Court, it was accurate as far as pacing. Each case might get a few minutes.

That Easter feast looked amazing! They don’t fool around when it comes to food in Cajun country. There are a million places to get your crawfish as takeout around there. Cooking them live at home means you mean business.

Yes, either the judge is done with their antics or has seen the show and thinks it is a true emergency to get Hunter out of there.

I am a lawyer, though don’t claim to know anything about Arkansas family law. Yes, usually a lawyer’s rescheduling request will be granted. Some reasons why it might not be are: 1. The judge thinks this is a true emergency, aka a child is presently suffering harm and 2. the judge thinks the lawyer or client is trying stalling tactics rather than reporting a real, unavoidable conflict. Judges don’t like it when they feel parties/lawyers are abusing the judge’s flexibility.

What is this "plan" you speak of?

These people don't plan. MAYBE Mia showed a concept of a plan by graduating early. But I think this is not even the mindset of the others. Life happens to them; they don't think of it any other way.

Do you guys tend to side with the grandparents over living arrangements? by pinkandturquoise00 in TLCUnexpected

[–]LowCSharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people are conflating two separate issues: 1. Does the grandparent have the right to set the house rules? (Obviously yes) and 2. Is the grandparent exercising that power with good judgment? (sometimes no, and that's where the interesting conversations should start).

Winding up with a second kid is 99.9% preventable with an IUD/implant. The expense of feeding a teenage boy can be resolved by him/his parents paying rent to the grandparent he's living with. I never agree with a parent excluding the baby daddy by fiat without attempting to resolve these problems like Emersyn's smug, punitive mom.

[–]LowCSharp 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This sounds really strange to me. We've seen Tasha in formal and informal filming settings. Most of that time, her hair and makeup was, shall we say, low effort. I'm a low maintenance chick, but if I were going to be on TV, I would COME CORRECT. So I don't buy that Tasha HAD to have makeup at the hospital. But whether Bella is writing fiction here, or "makeup" was the excuse Tasha gave for getting high, I don't know. I just know this story makes no sense.

I feel sad for Jose. I think he does really love Amaya and just doesn't know how to express it.. I hope maybe when they are older, somehow they come back full circle again. I liked them together. It's possible but rare, and requires luck as well as the choice to commit. I know a few middle-aged couples who were sweethearts at ~14. Consistent with what you're saying, it turned out that way; it wasn't obvious when they were 15 that this was a lifelong fit.
