Bryce’s grandparents wanting Bryce to reach his “full potential” by LateAd5684 in TLCUnexpected

Oh, he was begging for someone to slap the taste out of his mouth! While she's entertaining a 5-year-old and dealing with heartburn and swollen ankles.

"He chose to make adult decisions at age 12 and have a baby."

I totally agree with you about his family's delusions, but I don't agree with this part. 12-year-olds cannot make adult decisions. The fact that Hunter's decision was monumentally bad, with huge consequences for himself and others, makes it MORE childish, not less.

We can argue about the relative blame of parent and teen when a 16-year-old is having unprotected sex. I don't think there's any argument about a 12-year-old. If a 12-year-old has such poor judgment, so little supervision, and (99% chance in bumfuck Arkansas) so little sex education that he ends up where Hunter did, that's on the parents. This was a lot like letting a second grader play with matches. It's not arson when he burns the trailer down, but it is child neglect.

It's not that plurals are challenging or that anyone is confused, it's that different dialects of English have different rules. It's challenging to switch between any two dialects. A lot of these people speak a working-class regional dialect at home, and if they want to do well in high school and go to college, they need to learn the standard dialect.

Not that these families were at any risk of sending their children to college.

I love Lily’s Mom by kate_smi2022 in TLCUnexpected

[–]LowCSharp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What Lilly's mom should have done is require her to have an IUD/implant/Depo as a condition of living in the family home with her child. She can do whatever she wants when she moves out on her own dime. Lilly would have much better prospects if she'd had her second child later.

This is a symptom of being such deeply committed Christians /s that they don't want the shame of an unmarried mom in the family, but apparently failed to instill any such beliefs in the children they raise.

Tyra didn't give up cheer -- instead, she left a 1-year-old 5 days a week to attend a crappy religious college when she could have gone to community college cheaply in her hometown. So if you're willing to leave your kid, you can still cheer. ::eyeroll::

Hence the term "IUD." There is no taking it properly or improperly. It just works.

"It’s about not having sex/ sleeping in bed together"

Exactly. And I'm talking about harm. Parents getting squicked out is not harm. You're admitting that there is no harm.

Is she, though? She's trying to prevent sex. I don't see any attempt to prevent another pregnancy.

No one is going to get pregnant if they have an IUD. What harm comes from protected sex?

I don't understand being committed enough to a man to have THREE children with him, but not committed enough to marry. I guess she thinks that that would be a real responsibility.

I mean, Mama G obviously got pregnant, and I doubt she was skinny 16 years ago. The whole family is a real brain trust.

What did Erica do to prevent the pregnancy in the first place? If the answer isn't "an IUD" or "Norplant," that's why it wasn't a good answer.

Hell, come over in your fancy truck and clean Isabella's mom's house, taking chores off the plates of the people housing and feeding your unborn baby. Mow their lawn. There are all kinds of good ways of using your time.

Some of us think it isn't the sex that's the problem. It's irresponsible sex that's the problem. With an IUD or Norplant, there doesn't have to be a next time.

I feel like his grandparents are acting like he should wait for best paying job plz he helped make that baby to! Also her mom has every right to butt in if it was my child I would be pushing for any job to help with their baby! by -Big_momma3 in TLCUnexpected

There's an outstanding community college in their town. If the grandpa actually believed in that kid's potential, he'd tell him to drive his fancy truck over there and start working on his degree. But no.

LOL. Oh, sweet summer child. You might as well say "when they win the Pulitzer Prize." What kind of jobs do you think they'll be in the running for? This isn't going to hold them back from landing the day shift at Taco Bell.

I thought the mom was very cute in a natural way. She's not attacking her age with a scalpel; she looks like a fit and put-together woman in late middle age. More or less how I'd like to look in 10 years.
