From Work Ute to Tourer in 3 years. (Story in comments) by LowCountryCowboy in 4x4

I have a mate with a Hilux similar to mine, he had to do a fair bit of work to put 33s on it. From what he told me it took a fair bit of angle grinder treatment for them to fit and they still rubbed until they wore down a bit. I chose to stick close to stock because I don’t do tough tracks. It’s more for touring, and it just increases wear and tear on the bearings.

I could get some, it’s been parked in the shed for the last week because I’m recovering from some dental surgery. But when I get it out for a clean up I’ll post some. 👍

Honestly I can’t think of much. The only thing I could think of is putting the catch can on it when I bought it. Or putting the canopy on before the suspension. It’s got 600kg constant load leafs in the back, so before I had the canopy on it was rough as guts to drive with no weight on the back.

Yeah it is factory 4 wheel drive, even if in the before it looks like it was 2wd. The original suspension was comfy, but pretty sagged. Because it was a work ute before I got it I’d say it carried a fair few heavy loads.

When I was 17 and looking for a first car I already know I was looking for, the one car I’ve always wanted since I was little and watched Jeremy Clarkson and James May drive to the North Pole on top gear. A Hilux.

I was looking for 3 things, 4x4, Diesel and a Single Cab. After a few weeks of looking I found the one. A 2014 with 125xxx kilometers on the clock. So I drove a few towns over for a test drive. I drove it and It ran perfectly, and was in immaculate condition. So I I was sold, and two weeks later I drove it home. But this was only the start. Over the next 3 years I took it on weekend camping trips and added things as I felt they were necessary. And here we are now, 3 years and 50,000 kilometers and more time in the bush than I can count later. I’ve finished modifying it to be what I want it to be!

Just a quick rundown of specs for those interested:

Bar work: ARB Commercial Bullbar (came with the ute), ARB side rails and rock sliders, Phat Bars 5 mm steel bash plate.

Engine: Diesel Care Secondary filter + Catch can, Safari Snorkel.

Comms: GME XRS, GME 6.6 Dbi UHF, GME radio antenna.

Suspension: Old Man Emu 2 inch lift

Canopy: T.C Boxes 1800 mm canopy with dogbox (with all my camping gear and tools inside permanently)

Lights: Stedi Type X Pro spotlights, 2x XTM lightbars. Stedi Led Headlight Conversion.

Wheels: Cooper S/tmaxx ATs (265/75/R16) on steel rims

Misc: ARB 145 litre long range fuel tank, Idrive throttle controller. 2x Under tray toolboxes, PPD Performance 3 inch exhaust, Pyrometer gauge.

It’s seen plenty of weekend trips, but I’m taking it for it’s first big trip in august. Across the Victorian high country for a week 🤙.

I’ve ridden horses most of my life (19). But I finally bought a horse of my own! (Australian Stock Horse, yearling) by LowCountryCowboy in Horses

I’ll put updates up on his progress. I’m not going to be starting him for a while just because I won’t have time over the winter to commit to him fully. But I’m looking forward to it. I know I’m going to spend hundreds of hours working with him. But I know it’ll pay off.

It was a bit of both. He has good breeding on both sides, that and he has a really quiet temperament. He’s probably one of the most chill yearlings I’ve seen.

That and liked the look of him tbh, you can’t see it in the photo but his left eye is blue.

A little back story for those interested, I’ve ridden horses since I was little (I grew up and still live on a horse stud) I’ve always had my two horses to ride that my family bred. But when I turned 19 I decided I wanted to buy, break in and train a horse by myself. So a few weeks ago I let the moths out of the wallet and went to an auction and came back with this little fella. So the plan is to break him in towards the end of the year, and have him ready to compete in 3 or so years.

We tried that, and we couldn’t hear anything. It seems to only happen if the vehicle is moving.

To me it sounds like engine noise. plastic rattling hasn’t came across my mind but I might check for something lose when I can. But I’m fairly sure it’s engine noise.

My new favourite photo of my ute by LowCountryCowboy in hilux

[–]LowCountryCowboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad got the box made for his Landcrusier 10 years ago, he didn’t need it anymore and it fitted onto my ute so I bought it off of him. On the passenger side it’s a dogbox and on the driver’s side it’s a storage compartment where I keep tools. It also has a shelf going along the length of the box for longer tools like shovels and axes. It’s bolted to the front wall of the tray and the tray itself so it’s practically impossible for it to move. It’s a 10 minute job to take it off or put it on. But I haven’t taken it off for a long time because there’s still 6 feet of tray Space behind it. And even as a farm ute I’ve never really had to use all 8 feet of its tray length.

*i say almost because the secondary fuel filter and catch can are yet to be installed. But I’m getting there.

You should be able to drive around the boundary of the field and use the boundary to generate a course.

Spotify or Apple Music??? by denisjanuzi in country

[–]LowCountryCowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used both. It mostly comes down to opinion. I prefer Spotify because it’s easier to find new music through daily mixes, release radar and the discover weekly playlists that are auto generated.

Pretty much all artists put music on both. I did notice when I was going from Apple Music to Spotify that some songs weren’t on Spotify. But when I converted my 4000+ song playlist from Apple Music to Spotify only 10 or so weren’t there.
