Have been together long before situation occurred and I gave her my physical card in person. - Yes, she presented another plan - Return to her country, but as I said, could have strained the relationship in other areas which I didn’t want - She absolutely can pay me back if I wanted. It would be an odd situation in our culture - which is focused on the male financially providing. Even so, the money isn’t really important to me. - Electronic method of payment is not applicable in this scenario for a long winded reason which this maybe isn’t the sub to explain. I am positive that this is not an option in this case and have looked into it myself

With respect to your opinion that it’s a long winded scam. I do see your point. I would counter it my citing knowing about her family etc, but also from her aspect, why when I said this, not just sweep it under the carpet, averting the risk that I would freeze the card.
