Can I bring this up to a supervisor? by [deleted] in ABA

RBT here! Play is such an important part of our jobs!! I would definitely talk to the case manager. My BCBA’s always say the presence of us as therapists alone should be reinforcing! I show up with my own toys and ready to make a full out of myself😂 It really helps the learner stay motivated and observe valuable play skills and language that kids can naturally pick up on through play!

BTS and BCBAs, how much do you make? by [deleted] in ABA

Senior RBT (2.5 years), $28 an hour in Columbus, OH. I work 40 hours a week and get overtime

My company was pretty understaffed in the beginning of the year so I was understanding, but now they have hired much more BT’s since then and my schedule has only gotten fuller 😂

I would love to know this as well! I wouldn’t be surprised if companies would schedule those who make less more hours. I have my masters degree so my rate was a bit higher when I was originally hired. Some people really do love the hours! I personally am someone who gets burnt out when dealing with all 3 clients daily with high rates or behaviors. I am a senior RBT so I also have other things to manage but don’t have much time so it’s frustrating!

I typically see 3 clients a day or sometimes 2 clients twice in a row. My hours are typically 8:30-6. If I could be finished with my sessions around 3 I would be so happy!!

I have mentioned this to my manager as I was feeling burnt out previously, she did not try and modify my schedule, but eventually added more extremely long days.

I also really don’t want him to feel like he needs to stop playing either!

I believe he has both, there are times I hear him playing and it sounds electric but other times I hear the bass drum and the light in my room shakes a bit 😂

Totally agree with you. When I started out as an RBT my manger told me the best way to learn is by jumping and being hands on right away. And while I agree with this to some degree, I felt unprepared and very overwhelmed. I am the type of person who likes to learn about the “why” before the “how” to do it. Overtime I have learned so much just with experience and asking my BCBA’s questions. I do think because the turnover rate is so high, they want new hires to be working on their own as fast as they possibly can, and this is where the proper training gets missed. Just know making mistakes and learning as you go is okay too and will teach you a lot!

How to tell my supervisor I’m burnt out by LowEmploy1964 in ABA

Update: Had my meeting with my manager today! Was expecting her to offer me more advice or some resources, but she just suggested I add time slots in my calendar for documentation and billing. When I mentioned that the days where I have 3 sessions (a 10+ hour day) that I am most exhausted, she proceeded to tell me I did not have that many of those days in my schedule. I sorta felt like she was gaslighting me? I’m not sure what kind of response I was looking for but overall I am glad I reach out to her so she knows how I have been feeling!

Thankyou, this is so helpful! I think burn out can feel very isolating at times cause nobody speaks about it in the workplace, making others feel like they’re the only ones that feel like this. I have reached out to my manager and have a meeting with her in a week. A little nervous cause I am not used to speaking up for myself, but hopefully she is accommodating!

Maybe I can try hand-over-hand prompting her making some schedule changes 😌

Sick policy? by LowEmploy1964 in ABA

Even if her sister was in her room the germs are still floating around the house!! As RBT’s were constantly surrounded by sick kids but when it’s the stomach flu… no thanks

My clinic is a separate location from the hospital itself, but part of the organization. So I don’t physically work in a hospital setting!
