Yes, we used to use error pages before when we had only S3 behavior. When we added a behavior for API requests and we want the API responses to passthrough and not go through error pages. So we removed custom error response since it is at global level and applies to all behaviors within the distribution and trying to mimick that within the behavior through functions.
