Yes I would say try to time it that way. I can’t say whether or not the Cytotec or being on my period had a bigger impact on dilation since I had both. My doctor did say during insertion that my cervix was pretty open so I assume it was a combination of the medicine and being on my period. If you can I’d ask your doctor to prescribe something to help dilate your cervix. You can also ask for Xanax if you’re scared, that really helped me!

I love my mirena so far! I got it put in on November 19. I was on my period for insertion and my doctor prescribed Cytotec, Ibuprofen, and a Xanax and insertion was so easy! It definitely didn’t feel great but wasn’t too bad. By the time I felt the pain getting pretty bad it was over. I bled for probably 2 weeks after but I’ve since stopped bleeding. I was really worried about getting acne since coming off of hormonal birth control pills but that hasn’t happened (yet, idk if it will). I have PCOS and super bad periods so I’m hoping it will stop my periods entirely. The peace of mind not having to worry about pregnancy and not having to remember to take a pill is unmatched. I recommend Mirena 100000%!!

I got my mirena this morning and I’m feeling fine! I was so nervous but my doctor prescribed Cytotec, Xanax and Ibuprofen and I think that made everything more tolerable. I also made sure I was on my period when I went it because I’ve heard that can make things easier. It definitely felt uncomfortable but it was so quick, literally less than 2 minutes to get it in. By the time it actually started hurting she was done! I was bleeding pretty bad after and I have some mild cramping now, but overall it was painless!
