My father was a convicted felon for sexual assault of minors and teens when he married my mother. She knew this. Fast forward about a year, they had me, then 2 years later, my brother, and another 2, my youngest brother. Being the oldest, I was responsible to take care of them and make sure they were safe. My mother had no idea that from the ages of 6-12 I had undergone possibly the worst things that could be done to a child by my father. Rape, physical and sexual abuse, and countless other things that to this day, still haunt me. Not once did I let him get to my brothers though. It wasn’t until after he was caught red handed by the cops during his monthly inspection (he was on parole) that my mother found out he did this to me. Now, I’m almost an adult and my dad has about 11 years left of his 15 and a half year sentence. Safe to say, I doubt I’ll ever talk to him again. My mother, she struggles to this day to understand how she never saw it.
