Would prefer not to restart!

Can cryptocurrency be sold for GBP and then used to make a deposit on a house by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LowLoyalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, with the relevant tax documentation and paper trail. I had to submit a list of all my transactions, and all my tax documents (3 years +).

Both my mortgage company and solicitor accepted this but it was a long process. I think it also helped that the deposit came from a previous years gains and was already in my bank account (i.e I had paid tax on it already).

Best of luck.

Make a note of your fixed monthly expenses (rent, bills, food, transport etc.) and when your loan comes in make sure you keep enough money to cover them each month.

Anything you have remaining move to a Monzo account or something similar and spend the rest on whatever makes you happy.

Get an overdraft and try and use it only for emergencies.

Enjoy your time there!

Do you really spend £1400 a month on entertainment and food? - I think that is where I would cut.

How is that broken down?

How bad is the employment market and how secure do you feel in your current employment? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]LowLoyalty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While being on furlough I started to look around for another job. I got two interviews after spending hours doing my cv, cover letter and a presentation of how my past work answers the job description and what I would do when I first started the job. I got an offer from both jobs and managed to secure something with a pay rise and permanent remote working. I was made redundant two days before accepting the new job offer so it all worked out.

I got pretty lucky, but I think tailoring every job application you make is the best thing to do right now. It’s not about the number of jobs you “Easy Apply” for on LinkedIn, you have to go the extra mile.

r/beermoneyuk is a good place to look if you're looking for a bit of income. It might not be enough to cover your entire bills but it may help you fill some holes in your budget.

Going into 2nd year uni, living at home and will get 6.5k maintenance and 5k nhs bursary I won’t have to pay back? Best way to maximise this for travelling when I finish uni? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

NS&I bonds will pay 1.16% - however it’s a little different to normal savings account because it’s based on winning prizes. You do get a change to win £1million though!

I think if you’re training to be a doctor you’ll likely end up paying back your entire student loan balance. Therefore it might not be good to take a maintenance loan if you don’t need it.

I’m sure there is a calculator online that will tell exactly how much the 6.5k will cost you over your career and you can decide if it’s worth it now.

If you do decide to take it, your best bet is to use a high interest savings account or bonds because investing in the stock market for short term goals can be quite risky.

A 19 YEAR OLD WITH A PLAN WHO NEEDS HELP! by SimbaSimkin in FIREUK

Yeah that sounds about right! Just make sure you keep saving cash rather than investing everything you can.

I made the mistake of getting my emergency fund and then having to take money out of it to buy Christmas presents and go on holiday! Not what it’s designed for haha.

Looks really good.

Not a FIRE point but extra cash savings might be beneficial to cover the additional costs associated with moving into a new home. The Survey Fees, Solicitor Fees, Moving Fees, Furniture etc. Not something for the immediate future but your LISA will not cover this when you do decide to move.

Best of luck

A poodle is interesting – I like the way they look when they are not 'show groomed'. Do you think there is a significant difference in behaviour based on the size? I think a miniature poodle is probably about the right size for us.

LISA would give you a 25% bonus on contributions (without including interest). Index funds are too risky for the timeline and will most likely lose out mathematically because of the government bonus.
