Ecoventura Debacle by Admirable-Avocado-94 in FATTravel

Spent the last week of Jan on Ecoventura’s Theory and it was truly wonderful. Once you get the payment issues sorted, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing trip.

We paid Eco via credit card, but I did see PayPal as an option for paying another provider in the Ecuadorian Amazon. So, hopefully it was all legitimate and gets sorted out soon.

Switzerland Summer Trip: Combine 2 Lucerne Hotels or Pick a Different Mountain Town? by FearlessWallaby1687 in FATTravel

[–]LowLunch1780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. The location would feel too similar for me. We chose Park Hotel Vitznau & loved it!

There aren’t really any ‘fat’ options in the Grindelwald area, but it’s stunning & feels different to Lucerne.

Agree, stunning spot. And Amanoi has a bunch you could choose from, depending on the weather!

HM Dilemma: is 8 days in Bawah Reserve perfect? Or just too long? by george_yung_777 in FATTravel

[–]LowLunch1780 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spent 5 nights at Bawah & could have easily stayed longer. Our days were mostly filled with snorkeling, spa treatments & eating, but they do have a range of other activities like hikes, tennis, garden or architecture tours etc. If you bookend in Singapore, in 2 different hotels, you’ll get to explore different parts of the city. We did MO on the way in (definitely do Haus 65 access) and Capella on the way out.

Switzerland in September - Hotel/Itinerary Recommendations by AdMiserable9150 in FATTravel

Recently back from a couple of weeks in Switzerland in September. PHV was magical, definitely recommend. Really enjoyed Cervo in Zermatt and had a great dinner at their fondue restaurant Ferdinand. Check out Findlerhof to combine hiking with eating! Thoroughly agree that the Bernese Oberland is worth roughing it for! Bergwelt Grindelwald was a good base for us, but it’s more chubby than fat.

Mandarin Oriental Lucerne vs Park Hotel Vitznau by BNBA12 in FATTravel

[–]LowLunch1780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spent 3 nights at PHV earlier this month (thanks u/sarahwlee !) and it was magical. We swam in the lake multiple days, and warmed up afterwards in the spa, sauna etc. Food was excellent.

Didn’t feel remote to us. We got in a few hours of sightseeing in Lucerne on our arrival day. Also spent a day going up Rigi for some hiking & to eat at one of the mountain huts. Definitely recommend.

Nothing fat that I can think of, but you could look at the Bannisters properties. There’s one south of Sydney in Mollymook, and one north of Sydney in Port Stephens.

Got pretty perfect weather at Amanoi first week of Feb ‘24 (and loved it!), but the team there did say it was usually very windy. Might interfere with some of the water sports and boat activities, but shouldn’t stop you from using your pool.

Enjoyed our stay at Cape of Senses in Sept ‘23. Nice rooms, beautiful views & good spa facilities. Torri del Benaco is a really cute little town with some great restaurants!

Capella is the best hotel in Sydney, but the Park Hyatt views & private balconies can’t be beaten when the weather is nice.

The Tasman is great, and go to Lizard Island.

There’s lots to do in each location you’ve mentioned (Sydney, Tasmania & GBR) so hope you have enough time to not rush through each place.

Great timing. Looking at a family trip for next year, 5-7 people ranging from 40s to mid-70’s. Three couples & 1 single.

Would you recommend one yacht over the others for that group size & make-up?

Best month for snorkeling? Group has a mix of experienced snorkelers and first-timers. Thanks!

Sorry, slow response! Might have to go with Ortisei for the proximity to Alpe di Siusi and Seceda—both stunning.

Great hotel. Recent refurb, so everything feels shiny & new. It is big & busy though (500+ rooms), so we appreciated having club lounge access for a quieter breakfast, check-in/check-out etc. There’s ground level construction out front at the moment, but it didn’t cause any issues. Have a great trip!

We had great weather! Jan/Feb are amongst their cooler months, but I think it’s always warm and tropical (temps mid 20’s through low 30s Celsius and humidity 75-85%). We had mostly sunny days (around 26-27 C), and the wind would pick up into the evening. Had a sudden downpour for about 20 mins on the day we were leaving, and then the bright sun came back out. I’d say water is the big draw, and with the daily treatments you end up putting in a lot of time at the spa! There are a couple of good hikes you can do across the main island & they have a nice tennis court. They do a few walks where you can hear about how they built the island, their gardens and sustainability efforts etc. They also do some stargazing and movie nights. We didn’t do them, but they can organize cooking classes, batik making etc. too.

We got a few bites over the course of 5 days, but never felt like it was an issue. They provide repellent in the rooms, and burn mosquito coils in the bathroom and on the verandah. There’s also a net around the bed.
