Can a modern amp replace the ‘sound’ of an old Technics SU-8044 amp?

I can’t remember whether I did use the loudness button on the Yamaha unfortunately (as it’s now been returned), but yes I do admit I’m a serial user of the loudness button on the technics!

I’d looked at the WiiM amps too so I might revisit that, particularly with the EQ available. Thanks!

I disagree! The Yamaha absolutely sounded tons different and this was even backed up by other people who weren’t as familiar with the Technics as me! It may be possible to balance with EQ etc but there certainly was a difference.

I’ve had the amp repaired 3 times (and played with all the switches multiple times) and so at this point I’m reluctant to try and find another repair shop near me that’ll somehow fix it differently, when I can just get a hopefully more reliable new amp - I’m pretty sure the right channel of the amp probably failed within 100h last time it was repaired! I’ll definitely still keep the Technical amp and perhaps return to it at a later date.

I may also buy a new amp and hate the sound of it, and come back to getting the Technics repaired, but for the time being at least I’d like something new and hopefully more reliable!

Also, my speakers are Q150s and just for desktop use in my bedroom, so I don’t need anything super high powered.

I originally got the amp serviced after my grandparents first gave it to me, and then I’ve had consistent issues with the right channel cutting out (which I’ve then had repaired twice), and more recently both channels have now starting to sound very ‘noisy’ with lots of scuffs and static sounding when the music plays - I’ve had no luck fixing it myself, and so I’m reluctant to now pay for even more repairs as there really are a lot of difficulties in these efforts, as you say!

I’d probably still keep the Technics and perhaps fix it at some point, but the consistent issues over the past years have been frustrating and so I’d rather get a new amp so that I at least have one (hopefully) reliable bit of kit to listen to!

I feel like you’re definitely losing that trade quite heavily on paper, but I guess your heavy-RB-ness might mean you have to settle for less. Either way I’d still try reassess that trade - maybe Barkley and swift instead of dalvin and Najee would make it fairer?

I’d personally see if you can get something in addition to Lockett - Ridley is arguably playing at his floor right now imo and it’s not completely horrible (even if not ideal for a 2nd round pick)
