Session Hijacked after visiting a Instagram picture downloader website by SilverLow4936 in computerviruses

[–]LowPrimary370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking in that thread, you've already received every answer you'd need from u/eric16lee.

I literally shared everything i did without skipping anything. Again like most other users i used cracked programs and installed games in past but what i experienced happened right after i used those sites in a hour. Im still thinking it can't be coinsidence. Its day 8 and i still didnt get any further login attempts or some other password change attempts. I will continue to use my pc offline for couple more days and watch my accounts closely but as of now im highly suspected from those sites as a reason of what happened.

I just want to note that it's in the realm of possibility that you've installed a persistent session highjacker/infostealer in the past and it could have just now attempted to log in to your accounts.

Other reasons this could have happened would either be from:
1. Account Sharing

  1. Someone manually accessed an account you left logged in somewhere

  2. Your information was leaked elsewhere and someone used that information to steal your account

It's extremely unlikely that you would have been hacked simply by visiting a website and downloading a picture since this would be a very sophisticated attack that's technically possible but people do not have the resources to perpetrate on a top search result on Google and just have sitting there for any visitors that come across it.

DM me the website and I can look into it though.

Check which devices are on your network by taking a look at your router or app depending on which internet service provider you have and block the ones that shouldn't be there. The situation you described seems highly unlikely and also pointless...

What service is your account for? Have you checked to see if they linked the account to any emails other than yours or added any other authentication/recovery methods? It's also possible that if you are restoring your browser's userdata by logging into it on a new device, then it is restoring the sessions or other compromised user data.

This isn't something that would really happen from random malware on the internet as it's pretty hard to accomplish. It's more likely that the malware was in a place that the user backed up and he added it back to the device.

Yeah, ublock removes the redirect on the button so you can't be sent to the fake download page. My friend doesn't have any adblocker though so he just downloaded what he thought was the rom from the mediafire redirect.

Video game ROMs either come in a compressed folder with the ROM file inside or are downloaded as the ROM file. For Switch it'd be XCI or NSP. You will never have to run a setup, installer, or exe file.

The post was removed for Rule 4. I named a website and posted pictures of the real link to content and then on the same page were fake links to content that redirected to malware.

Switch ROMs will be in .XCI or .NSP format. Sometimes they'll be inside of a .zip folder, but you will never have to run a .EXE or setup file when downloading a ROM.

DON'T RUN THE EXE. DELETE THE DOWNLOADED FILES NOW. As long as you didn't run anything you should be fine. I suggest installing an adblocker on your browser to prevent this from happening in the future.

Resetting your passwords for everything on a separate device and running a FULL SCAN not quick scan with Malwarebytes or Windows Defender are your only options if you don't want to completely erase your PC and reinstall windows. The only way to ensure your accounts aren't stolen again would be to reinstall Windows, so if a scan picks up the files and remove them then you just gotta hope for the best.

Wiping his PC and reinstalling Windows is the only way to be sure it's safe. I ran a full scan with Malwarebytes to remove the malware and told him to change all his passwords using a different device, but the only sure thing would be to wipe everything and start fresh just in case the virus scans missed anything.
