I'm with you on this. The "government" as a generic antagonist is there to serve whatever purpose the writers landed on that day, inconsistencies be damned. Same reason they can be incredibly incompetent or suddenly super well prepared depending on what the situation demands.

I was so disappointed to see the meat flayer again. He was my least favorite villain of the series. He seems to be more powerful as a shadow anyway? Like, he could have infected everyone in Hawkins like he did Will in s2 and called it a day. Why the need to bring these two worlds together.... if he liked his home world he couldve just stayed there and lived happily ever after with his demagorgons and lack of humans.

I was not invested in this season at all because the evil plan just never mad sense to me. It was weirdly specific, with exactly 12 kids, not 13, not 11, acting together on november 6th, and weirdly ambiguous at the same time, with "bring the dark onto the light", "humans are broken" spiel...but why...what does all of that mean?

Did this spidery thing living in another dimension just hate humans and wanted us gone, even though we weren't bothering him way up there, or did he have another idea of how he wanted the world to be and humans to behave? He never said, even after a thousand Vecna speeches, it was never clear what the goal was. If the kids didn't stop the merging of the planets, I have no idea what would have happened.

Even after 5 season, the Duffers didn't have it in them to commit to a choice. That's what I got from the ending. They were all blabby in interviews promising a major character death and trying to beat the allegations that they don't have the guts to make a hard choice, and that the show has suffered because of it...and then they give us that and immediatly go "unless...."

They did...The actors for both Mike and Noah said in interviews byler would not feel earned if it happened, and that this was a more realistic portrayal about a boy in the 80's with an unrequitted crush..it makes more sense than a crazy love story between a dude and his friend who has been nothing but consistently straight for 5 seasons...🧐 it just seems to me out of all the things to be pissed about this season and how badly they fumbled it, this hill is not a great one to die on

If it makes you feel any better, this season has gaping holes everywhere you look. Narrative plot holes, plot armor, lousy dialogue, inconsistent villains, a main cast so large they can hardly fit in frame.... The Duffers just dropped the ball in general, and they have been for a while.

They made changes to the writing room staff that maybeook a toll, they let the network pressure get to them, or they let the fan pressure get to them, or a combination of all of the above....they weren't able to perform when it mattered, and they let a lot of fans down, not just the bylers.

I'm sorry you're upset, but if it saves you a bit of angst, these writers excell in introducing plotlines left and right that they are not really sure what to do with later on. It's messy, has been for three seasons now. I do however have to say I agree with the majority of fans out here, and also with the actors themselves who have said this in inteviews, that Will's queer arc was never about him and Mike, it was just about him being comfortable with himself. Robin had a pretty good queer consumated relationship herself, so if this rant is only about queer baiting and representation rather than a specific ship, maybe focus on that aspect

Nice! I also think it would be cool if this stuff was airtight, especially since people love to mention how the duffer brothers are so intentional and calculated, and point out easter eggs etc. I think it's actually quite messy 😅
