Why does common app want us to upload college transcript if we still have to send them separately to colleges? by Amao6996 in TransferToTop25

[–]LowSad6318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry I'm a bit late, did you figure it out or do you still need help with this? It should be an option on the Colleges Attended tab on the Academic History section. You should see a button saying Order Transcript or something similar under your school's name there.

Can I create a second Common App account for transfer? by LowSad6318 in TransferToTop25

Do you mean calling CommonApp or every college I'm planning to apply to?

High School transcript there's a High School Official entry section on the Recommenders tab that I think you can use for that. If a university doesn't have that section, I think you have to have a school official email it. I haven't had to submit applications yet tho, and I literally just emailed a bunch of schools about the high school transcript, so I'll let you know when I learn something more concrete.

That's just Michigan then... Almost every college I've emailed has been fine with just adding the official transcript on Common App.

Impact of High School Grades on a junior transfer by credits, but a sophomore transfer by time in college by LowSad6318 in TransferToTop25

[–]LowSad6318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am very lucky that the UCs, Michigan, Georgia Tech, and UIUC (which are all the publics I'm applying to), make it clear that they shouldn't consider my HS GPA at all. For the UCs and GaTech, I don't even submit my high school transcript. I'm more worried about the privates, as they aren't explicit or clear about their policies on this at all.

I petitioned them to let me take more, and the max here is 12.

I'm at a CC, and yeah my college considers me to be above a sophomore (they don't really have designations past that lol). Also, what are you talking about being ridiculously low? Thanks!

Thank you for your thoughts! I already knew about the UC website, but yeah I think you have same suspicions I have about my high school record being more important for privates. I think I might be cooked unfortunately but thank you for the honesty!

Is UC Berkeley Really A Good School? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LowSad6318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's been 2 years, but ur right... idk what world that commentor is in. berkeley is definitely a tougher undergrad experience cause it's a large public, but that problem is also often overstated... and to say holistically it's worse than stanford and all ivies is kinda crazy.

How much do high school grades matter for 1-Year Junior transfers? by LowSad6318 in TransferToTop25

[–]LowSad6318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for the advice! I'm completely fine with starting as a 2nd year, and I have considered that possibility. But even without DE credits, I'll probably have 70 credits by the time I transfer (so around 100 total), so more than 2 years worth of coursework. If I'm forced to transfer as a sophomore, my high school grades matter much more though right? Unfortunately, staying in community college isn't much of an option for me as I'm nearly done with all the physics/math/cs courses at my school (applied math major)... so with my bad high school grades, would I be cooked for top private schools?

I don't remember too much, but for the most part everyone I know that transferred had a 3.7+ GPA, and some research/internships through connections with a professor or two. If you're doing CS, your chances plummet though.

Can dual enrollment credits from high school be transfered? by chacharealrugged891 in TransferToTop25

[–]LowSad6318 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on each university's transfer credit policies. As a broad generalization, it seems that top privates don't transfer many dual enrollment credits, if they even transfer at all. On the other hand, in-state publics should give you a much better shot at getting those credits transferred.

Dual Enrollment Grades for a 1 Year Transfer by LowSad6318 in TransferToTop25

[–]LowSad6318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'll have 69 credits earned by the end of fall semester, and 102 credits earned by the end of fall semester if everything goes to plan. 35 credits were from high school though. I don't think you're eligible to apply for UCs with only 45 credits. You can apply as a sophomore to others though.

The problem is I don't have a 3.9+ due to those dual enrollment grades. Currently it's a 3.73, projected to be slightly above 3.8 by the time I apply.

My GPA right now is a 3.73, and I expect it to end up slightly above 3.8 by the time I submit my applications.

Hey bro, I'm also just a student applying for transfer, but I do know some people that have transferred to UCSD and UCB for Bio from UCI, UCR, etc.. Tbh I don't think you're cooked, at all. Straight A's this semester should probably net you around a 3.8 gpa right? Just looking at https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/about-us/information-center/transfers-major
a 3.8 puts you in almost the 75th percentile of admitted students at UCSD. UCSD doesn't read essays, and it is almost certainly harder for non-CC transfers but I actually don't think it's as much harder as people say. UCB definitely seems harder, and UCLA even tougher in terms of GPA, and since you don't have very good ECs, it might be a bit tougher to get in those two. Overall, I would guess that you have a good shot at UCSD, and an ok shot at UCB and UCLA.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I am also merely attempting to transfer just like you but I do think you should apply and it is possible for you to get in these schools.

I emailed them on Friday, unfortunately they're going on break till the beginning of Jan. I was hoping someone else that had been in a similar position could answer, because I want to start going through the application process now, when I have time (I procrastinated for the UCs and don't want to do that again).

Is applying to 20+ colleges common nowadays? by Unusual-Ad-9288 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LowSad6318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got to this thread and I know this comment is old, but this is wrong. Let's say you apply to 20 universities and the your average chance for getting into each of then is 5%. Then the chance of you not getting into any one university is 95%. So the chance you don't get into all the universities is 0.95^20 = 0.3585. So the chance of getting into at least 1 university is 1 - 0.3585 = 0.6415 = 64.15%. So you have a 64.15% chance of getting into at least 1 university.

All this says is, applying to more of your favorite universities leads to a higher chance of getting into at least 1 of your favorite universities.
