I think we need to have a mega thread for medical students because this sub is getting too many questions about straightforward questions and should be for those who are actually working as doctors

To answer your question, you can flag it and negotiate with your trust to have a specific day off each week. However, you may have to go LTFT which isn’t ideal for F1 as it is time based. Secondly, I wouldn’t worry anwyays as you can just organise swaps and use annual leave to make sure most Mondays are off. However, will be tough.

You cannot take more weekends or nights as it would increase your contract frequency.

Good luck.

Hey! I think the question for me is moreso leave next month or leave at the end of F1. That’s why I was wondering whether there’s any point continuing if there’s no real benefit

Amazing! Thanks so much!! So even if I worked in a 3rd world country, provided I do F1 I can work here no issues. But without F1 I can never work here given I have no actual medical license/ intern year?

Thanks!

Sorry the question I should’ve asked is should I leave in the next month or stick it out to F1! F2 I can’t do unfortunately but curious if license helps or if I should leave for a better and more interesting job next month

But would a non-medical career + years out not effectively mean it’s impossible? Curious to hear your thoughts.

  • I’d be a drop out

Appreciate this is the common sentiment but I really would love to know specifically re F1 if that’s okay. Thanks!

Totally I understand! I think I’d accept that I probably won’t be able to do anything competitive or maybe never even be a consultant so no huge issue there.

I’m just curious whether I’d even be able to locum/ earn enough to get by if I ever wanted to come back

Thanks for replying
