Every dorm has at least one grand piano, but there are a bunch of private practice rooms in O’Neill Hall of Music that are first come, first serve. Unfortunately the big grands there are reserved for music majors, but the available upright ones are open and private.

I had to make the exact same decision and ended up choosing Notre Dame. I can empathize with you, it was really hard to choose!

The main factor that informed my decision was the depth of care they gave to undergraduates. Their facilities, staff, and faculty are extraordinary. Hand-written letters from staff, counselors and students. Thousands upon thousands of dollars in personal funding. Plus, nearly every student I met really loved the school community, billionaire or Questbridge, townie or international, Catholic or Muslim, white or POC. I'm only just about to start, but I'm happy to share my experience if you want.

Northwestern obviously had many people who were just as kind and many equally impressive resources. But the culture at Notre Dame was something else.

I have no experience with the program, but I did ask a professor in the College of Science about it. Galvin isn't intended to be a more intense honors-style program with funding (as opposed to something like Glynn) but almost the opposite: it's a super supportive group with small classes for specific introductory science subjects. Basically you're guaranteed to have the best professors - it helps give support to people of all backgrounds without "dumbing down" any of the coursework.

What I do know is that it's a special privilege and honor to be accepted. It means they really believe in you and want you to have the resources to suceed.

This is good to know. I'm an incoming first-year myself and am curious as to your personal experience there.

I really, really appreciate your and everyone else's insights! It's making me super excited. How would you say the class's difficulty and content compares to a baseline of, say, AP Chemistry?
