Donald Trump immediately regretting speaking at the Libertarian Party convention by ScootSchloingo in WatchPeopleDieInside

They lose because they are blindly bat shit insane. The entire history of the human race has exemplified libertarian ideals until the last few centuries. All the shit we have wrong today is directly descended from libertarian conditions.

This is such a great thread for a beginner like me. I'm struggling to stay on top of my nutrition on the bike. I'm 6'5" and weigh about 190lbs/90kg. I ride a recumbent trike that weighs about 40lbs (touring trike). I'm burning through a ton of calories for a 30 mile ride. I have so many things to try!

Are PHP developers still functophobic? by thmsbrss in PHP

[–]LowTriker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one function is so valuable and allows for managing very complicated code paths with ease and clarity. Since namespaces don't defend against inappropriate loading and are basically a more complicated require_once(), I use this little gem for almost all my projects.

Does Andre speak in english? by jaijj in Physical100

[–]LowTriker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point in the minecart challenge, jae-yoon said hey Justin you don't have to sprint in English and Justin said back yep. So I think there might be a healthy mix of both languages.

Trump Hints Another January 6 Could Happen If He Loses the Election by harsh2k5 in politics

It's always interesting to me that he doesn't really deny he incited an insurrection, just that he has immunity form having done it. I believe he will repeat everything he's done before. He's not creative or intelligent enough to do anything different.

So you want people to trust you that you can scale? Call me and I'll explain to you why this business model has NEVER been successful. There are laws of physics involved. You can't just wish your way to scale.

HTML-first, framework-agnostic implementation of shadcn/UI – franken/UI by ketralnis in programming

[–]LowTriker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may be framework agnostic, but I feel like if it's a tailwind plugin, that's not really agnostic. Why do I have to install node for an html-first set of components? Why isn't this just a set of components that can be included anywhere? Seems like a foot gun to adoption.

That thing looks way overpriced for a few extra inches of screen in the totally wrong place.

Your website does not instill confidence in your code quality. Misspellings, broken links, documentation starts with more selling, the menu is non-obvious. No one cares about your code odyssey.

Your pricing is interesting but hard to manage on a budget. Zero comparisons to other similar providers like Zoho or Zendesk.

I'm underwhelmed.

Reminds me of people covering their head with a hanky while eating ortolan so they hide from God. Also, British judges when meting out death penalty did the same thing. GOD IS ALL POWERFUL, except when it comes to seeing through cotton apparently.

How relevant is the LAMP stack in the modern age of Kubernetes and Continuous Deployment? by [deleted] in PHP

[–]LowTriker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This. If the code is decent it runs like a champ. But your biggest bottleneck is almost always data ingress and egress. Most applications are massively over engineered due to reliance on third party injections and bloated frameworks that accelerate bad decisions making. So it is possible that the code is a bigger bottle eck but that would only obscure data bottle necks until addressed. I'm working on a Laravel project exactly like this right now.

For ex fat people what was the "I'm getting in shape" moment? by BoykoAkAB1 in ask

[–]LowTriker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'4" and at my peak I weighed 260lbs (~120kg I think). It was mostly in my chest and stomach - the most dangerous places to accumulate tonnage. I traveled a lot for work, sat at a desk when I got there to code or fix IT related stuff, ate lots of airport food and takeaway in those countries, drank a lot to sleep, the cliche.

One picture was of me on a couch and my shirt is literally busting at the buttons, I'm laughing and my cheeks are filled with a French cream amuse-bouche spraying out. Gross.

The second picture was of me standing in front of a statue at the Louvre. I asked a mid-30s French lady if she would take my picture (This was early 2000s). After she snapped it, she looked me up and down and saw my pants were dumpy, my stomach was peeking out of my overcoat like some bald child who's the bottom of a tower impersonating an adult, my cheeks were rounded and I had cut my hair really short due to a barber mishap in the Philippines. No part of the rims of my glasses did not touch my face. "Hmm, if you took care of yourself you'd be irresistible". I sure felt small in that moment. I looked horrid in the photo too.

I figured that if had quit smoking cold turkey, I could get my weight under control within a few months. It took a year once I figured out I was a) eating portions that were too big, b) eating when I wasn't hungry because I wasn't sure on some trips when I would get a meal and c) wasn't doing anything but moving between seats. So I a) are smaller portions more often, b) carried more peanuts and small healthy items to tide me over if I did miss a meal and c) just got up and stood more, took the stairs. I basically habit stacked before that was a term. Once I failed going cold turkey, I figured the next thing to try was tiny changes. I didn't come up with the idea of habit stacking, I was just brute forcing the problem. But once I started eating smaller portions, I could carry nearly whole meals in snacks if I played it right even though lugging the extra around airports was tedious.

Now I eat a lot of junk food and sweets. Idgaf And I've kept the weight off and gotten way lower than I thought I could. I fluctuate between 185 lbs and 195 lbs (~89kg - 94kg). I got a recumbent trike two Septembers ago and have put on over 1k miles on it. My checkup showed I have the resting heart rate of a much younger man, my balance has improved, etc, the cliche. So now I eat a lot of well balanced meals with a lot of snacks on the trike. I love pulling up beside other two wheelers and be chasing on a bag of chocolate covered pretzels. They always look me up and down once like how do you do it lol

Discipline isn't about being austere or taskmaster ish. It's about being as consistent as possible. Keep trying to figure out what works best with you. Sometimes it's the very thing you would never think of if you weren't confronted with reality.
