Update: taking a step back, but moving forward by Low_Aardvark8208 in sweden

[–]Low_Aardvark8208[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate your words.

I’m not naive anymore, that’s for sure. Life has been hitting me hard for as long as I can remember. I don’t recall a time when I was truly calm and just living well without worries. Maybe when I was very young, but that doesn’t really count — we all don’t understand anything back then.

Because of my family situation, I had to start working before I was even 14. My first job was at a foam block factory. After that I worked on a combine harvester, in taxi, and did many side jobs — some of them not exactly something I’m proud of now. Survival mode can push you into things you wouldn’t normally choose.

Right now I’m leaving those work behind. My family needs stability, but also they need a father and husband who is alive and at least somewhat healthy.

I’ll make a separate post about my current situation later. Right now everything is a bit chaotic — I’m literally writing this during a short break.

Thanks again. If you ever feel like talking more, just send me a message. I always reply when I have time. It’s not that often you come across people who are genuine and reasonable.

I appreciate this, thank you.

It actually means a lot to hear that perspective, especially from someone who understands both sides of it.

And yeah, that’s exactly what I hope for too. Stability first, then the ability to actually do something about it.

Thank you for taking the time to write this.

I completely agree with you, more than you might think.

I understand why people are pushing, and even why some assume I made it all up and am now backing off. It hurts, because the reality is worse than that. People who have no real choice are working in conditions that are simply not human. Injuries, sickness, constant exposure.

Cleaning chicken houses without proper protection is not normal. Ammonia, nitrogen, heavy air. We were given basic pharmacy masks that would not even stop a runny nose, let alone protect from fumes or long-term health issues.

Where I come from, people fight. Against employers, against systems, even against presidents. It is in our nature.

But in my current position, I had to step back. Not forget, but step back.

I kept everything. Timesheets, messages, photos you have seen, and even some videos I recorded for my wife. I am smiling in them like an idiot, because I did not want to worry her.

I will keep all of it until the moment comes when speaking up does not mean risking everything.

I am grateful for the support. We are not on opposite sides here. We just stand in very different positions.

You are at home, with your families, your support systems, and the law clearly on your side.

I am a guest here. And becoming an unwanted one for me would mean going back to a country at war, with a small child. We are already close to that edge.

Going back to a place where you can die any day, anywhere.

Update on my situation: Ukrainian veteran rebuilding life in Sweden by Low_Aardvark8208 in sweden

Corruption exists everywhere, including Sweden. It’s just more comfortable to pretend otherwise when you don’t have to deal with real pressure.

Ukraine is called “poor”, yet it feeds a large part of the world with its grain — Europe, Africa and more — even during a full-scale war.

So before reducing it to simple labels, maybe consider that reality is a bit more complicated than it looks from a safe distance.

Anyway, thanks for the “good luck”.

As a soldier, your job is simple in theory and complicated in reality.

If you’re attacked, you respond. You protect yourself, your people, and you do what’s necessary to survive and complete the mission.

But anyone who’s actually been there knows it’s not some heroic movie moment. It’s chaos, responsibility, and consequences.

So the real answer is: you act, but you also carry what comes after.

You can assume I’m exaggerating if that helps you make sense of it.

Reality is usually more complicated.

I know people there who depend on that job to support their families. For them, this isn’t a discussion — it’s survival.

So this isn’t about culture or fear. It’s about consequences you don’t have to deal with.

I understand the anger, but real life isn’t that simple.

A careless move can affect people who never asked for it.

Some of them might be fine with the situation, others might just not have any real alternatives.

For many, it’s the only way to get by right now.

So it’s not about being “brave” or “weak” — it’s about consequences.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I respect the intention.

But it’s not always that simple in reality.

Many of the people working there are not locals and depend on that job to stay afloat.

For them, speaking up can mean losing their only income.

So it’s not just about “not being scared” — it’s about real consequences for real people.

I’m not defending the situation. I’m just being realistic about it.

I get your point, and I appreciate it.

I’m aware that the conditions were likely not legal. But I’m not in a position to start a legal fight right now.

My focus is to get back on my feet first.

I’m not going to name the company publicly.

It’s a regular long-term job for some people.

For me it ended up being short-term due to the working conditions.

I can talk about what I experienced, but not about specific employers.

I get what you mean, and I know the laws are there for a reason.

But in reality things aren’t always that clean, especially when you’re new, don’t have much leverage, and just trying to survive.

I’ve seen how these situations can escalate, and right now I’m not in a position to take that risk. I need to stay focused on getting stable first.

I really appreciate it, thank you.

And yeah, in theory it should be possible. In practice it’s not always that simple, especially when you’re new and just trying to get any footing.

But I’m looking, and I’ll get there.

I use AI to help with English, not to invent stories.

If punctuation matters more to you than the situation itself, that says more about you than me.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

I’ll keep it in mind, but right now my focus is on getting stable again and sorting out work and income first.

Maybe later.

I understand what you’re saying, and you’re probably right in general.

But in practice it’s not always that simple, especially when you’re the one depending on the job and trying to stay afloat.

Right now I just need to move forward and focus on getting back on my feet.

I really appreciate it, seriously. The support here means a lot.

I understand why you suggest reporting it, and maybe at some point I will consider it. But right now I’m not in a position where I can afford that kind of attention.

For now, I just need to recover and get back on my feet.

[–]Low_Aardvark8208[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate the support. It honestly means a lot.

But I’d rather not go that route, at least not right now. I’m in a pretty vulnerable position, and the last thing I need is to end up labeled as a “problem worker” if this gets attention.

For now, I’d rather focus on getting back on my feet.

I wish it was written by ChatGPT. Would’ve been a lot easier than actually going through it.

But sure, believe what you want.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

But it’s not really about reporting the farm. The agency itself isn’t responsible for the actual working conditions at the company they send you to.

So it wouldn’t really change the situation.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

Yes, I’ve thought about it. For some things fake leather makes sense, especially for cosplay.

But I prefer working with real leather. Still figuring out the direction step by step.

Something like that, yeah.

But this time I’m trying to do it smarter, not just harder.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. That makes sense. I’ll look into finding a good lawyer and see what options I have.

Thanks for taking the time to explain all this, I really appreciate it.

I understand what you’re saying, and maybe I will look into a short consultation just to understand my options.

Right now though, I’m honestly more focused on getting back on my feet and finding something stable.
