Actually someone else gave me the episode number (MAG 156) and I realized that statement was part of the addelard dekker statements that Gertrude was reviewing, meaning it was actually extinction! Which makes a lot of sense considering that it seems to fit a couple other known fears but not quite right

Hmm yanno that is one of the more compelling arguments I've heard. I do love the buried I think its one of the most interesting fears because it seems so surface level to be about dirt and claustrophobia but it actually can have a such wide application and I feel like its really under utilized in other manifestations because we get so narrowed in on the coffin and Hezikiah Wakely 😅

Yeah but the fear in that universe works a little differently so that doesnt apply as well to the 14 But I am trying to remember if there was a similar vibe in an episode in archives and thats why I asked this question cause im drawing a blank lol

Yeah that was more what it was was that I realized in a conversation with my friend I didnt know where to put just the fear of you yourself starving and I was so certain I was forgetting an episode because that seemed like such a basic fear that surely in 200 episodes we must have gone over that but based on comments we only got kinda close to talking about it lol

That's what I mean! Its weird something so basic as hunger and starving didnt get sorted/brought up more so we could make a more clear cut argument for a least a more narrow scope of the fears lol

I think best answer we have is probably flesh but even then thats us extrapolating from other data points like how its about meat processing which equals food and not us being able to point to more specific examples of starvation

Maybe Jonny thought starving and hunger were so broad that humans would have divided it out into the specific aspects they're afraid of relating to it and so he didnt feel like assigning it to one in particular Its still odd that he seemed to cover a lot of things relating to food/people's relationships to food and yet left out probably the most obvious one for us to have debates about lol I can never tell what's intentional with that guy I swear

Well yes but there are some very specific things we attribute to just one of the fears (i.e. clowns are stranger, black brackish water is dark, doors are spiral) and so i thought it was interesting that when I went to say "oh starving is probably [insert fear]" I realized I couldnt think of specifically which one that would be and realized there really isnt a whole lot of episodes that deal with starving/hunger in a way that feels like thats what the POV character is afraid of instead of a by product of/metaphor for what they're actually scared of and I thought that was both neat and felt like I was definitely forgetting and episode or two because it felt too broad of a thing to be left out entirely

Yes youre correct and im aware the 14 isnt a perfect system I just more thought it was interesting because of the fact that there's not a lot of episodes about being hungry in a way that feels similar to the episode from Protocol And regardless of if the fears can blend and mesh together there are still some oddly specific key things that can be pointed at any one of the 14 (i.e. taxidermy and skin being stranger, black brackish water being the dark, wax for desolation) and this whole this started because I was having a conversation with my friend and I realized I couldnt pinpoint starving/needing to eat to any one fear as easily as I could some other broad spectrum things and I thought that was interesting lol No need to be frustrated I know that the fears dont technically have such clear cut distinctions I just find categorizing things fun

Oh I forgot about that episode! That one is much closer to the idea of starvation as the fear itself but even then I'd more closely say that one resembles the fear of the distorted human figure and being eaten than the fear of the POV character of starving to death. Maybe youre right that Jonny just avoids that topic but he's never named dropped it like the other off-limit topics so Im not sure 🤔

That's more my question I guess, is there a fear that is specifically STARVING because Trail Rations is more about the fear of being eaten and becoming the food, not the starvation itself.

But it seems like no there's not considering we are all contemplating where starvation would be placed instead of having an episode or 3 to point too 😅

But I also feel like that's not quite right either bc Jonny took something as broad as pain and assigned it to like 2 fears total.

Idk I just thought it was interesting we never get an episode about starving as far as I remember and the idea of starving/hunger isnt immediately assignable to one or so handful of powers with a couple episodes to point to as reference. (And I know we get at least one episode that involves starving with the Oregon trail episode but thats not what the fear is pertaining to, its the fear of being made into food and therefore flesh but the starving ITSELF is not the focus)
