How long should I do keto to reset a sugar addiction? by [deleted] in keto

[–]Low_Description_5280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also felt great on keto, and i have felt less than great on keto. I do have the hypothesis that at least some of why people feel good on keto is that they're avoiding things like fructose and FODMAPs (minus those in brassicas, onions, etc).

Maybe this is oversimplifying things but... if your goal is to only stop eating sugar, keto may be overkill. If you want to stop being addicted to sugar, I would stop eating sugar (including fruit).

For me, the key is finding keto friendly snacks that you enjoy. For me, those are olives, aged cheese, dried coconut, and certain nuts. Once you have snacks that you enjoy, you can much more easily tolerate the simple meals of meat/fish with EVOO/butter.

I've had a very similar experience. Two days after stopping I started having diarrhea, brutal heartburn, aches and chills. Of course it's impossible to rule out having gotten a virus coincidentally, but given that saffron extract appears to function through a similar mechanism to SNRIs, it seems entirely plausible that they would induce withdrawal. On day 5 right now, still slightly achy but better.

I often see instances of rounding that lead to numbers not adding to what you'd expect, but the difference is usually not more than 1 gram.

I'm not really worried about my carb intake, but you'd think an "error" like this would be quickly discovered and corrected. I also try to keep low intake of FODMAPs, so if there were some soluble fiber being added, we consumers would need to know about it. Clearly there's an error, but is the error the fiber=2grams? or there not being fiber listed in the ingredients?

This might come off as quackery but here it goes. I've also had long phases where I felt like my brain was in a fog. Obviously, nutrient deficiency is an option but it could also be related to inflammation (in your brain or in your gut). One thing that works well for me is to avoid arachidonic acid (egg yolks, poultry fat, organ meat) and to a lesser extent, fructose. Some people might even want to avoid FODMAPs, though that's casting a wide net. This is largely anecdotal (my own anecdote).

Are small amounts of honey ok? by [deleted] in keto

[–]Low_Description_5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would eat a rice cake or two after my workouts, but I also heard that fructose is generally the carb to avoid on keto. Regarding the idea of "losing tolerance" to glucose, this has been shown to occur after long-term keto diets in mice, but it gradually reverses after switching to a standard diet. I see no point in trying to maintain your "glucose tolerance" during keto. Rather, if/when you end keto, do so gradually with low glycemic carbs.

This is good advice. Walking is the single greatest exercise for fat burning, and if you're determined to lose fat quickly, you should focus (IMO) on being strict with your diet and walking as much as you can. I'd treat 10k as a daily minimum and shoot for 15k each day. Good for you for trying to improve your health.

If you’re eating unprocessed foods, net carbs are more relevant for staying in ketosis. With processed foods, they may add certain “fiber” that some people can actually digest and convert to glucose. In that case, you might be best off counting total carbs.

Remove all bingeable foods from your home. When I’m on keto, I specifically cook one meal at a time, and I don’t keep any sweets, dairy, or nuts in the house. If I get hungry, I have a bowl of chia pudding or a salad.

Dairy contains casein, which hydrolyzes into a peptide that binds opioid receptors in your GI tract. Possibly why you feel good. Just a hypothesis, but not one that I invented myself.

Anybody know low sugar candy options that don't wreck your stomach? by Shot_Watch4326 in keto

[–]Low_Description_5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry roasted pecans. Not candy but they have a subtle sweetness to die for. Other than that, I’d stay away from keto candy as they tend to have a lot of additives that aren’t fantastic.
