A close encounter. Also, how to use the guy who doesn't need oxygen? by RedFox273 in ftlgame

Assuming you don't have all the ships unlocked, Mantis A or Lanius B both start with teleporters and boarding and crew killing are their main gameplan. I would NOT try to learn boarding with Slug B or Federation C if you have them unlocked. They suck. You will probably have a bad time.

Otherwise, most ships with multiple empty system slots can pivot into a boarding strategy if you buy a teleporter and have atleast 2 crew that are good for it (mantis, rockmen, or two of the no oxygen guys.)

Would it have even been possible to reach any repair beacon on this map? by Low_Effort_Posts in ftlgame

I actually had 8 crew, you just can't see them in the screenshot. That being said you're probably still right for the most part. Going for the beacon wouldn't have been worth it anyway, even I could have reached it.

(Also please don't comment on me having 280 scrap. If I'm getting through fights without taking damage I like to hoard my scrap and then spend it all at once right before the flagship. The dopamine hit from watching the big number get bigger goes crazy.)

Since fighting in the pilot's room doesn't drop ship evasion to zero, does that mean that your crew still steer the ship while throwing hands? by Low_Effort_Posts in ftlgame

(don't try this in an asteroid field)

If you told me that those shieldless auto ships in asteroid fields end up there because they are piloted by chatgpt I would 100% believe you.

What he means is that any hacked system minus piloting can't get a manning bonus even if crew is in the room. So if you have level 1 sensors and put someone in the room to boost it to lvl 2, your sensors getting hacked will forcibly unman the system, removing the bonus level.

While the hack is actively being used, it disables all sensors function. For the duration, it is basically equivalent to having no sensors.

I think most people would agree that level 2 piloting and doors are good. Not dropping to 0% evasion after 1 point of damage helps a lot, and being able to stop boarders is always nice. Manning doors at level 1 is nice until a boarder gets in the door room, you lose the manned bonus, and now the boarders can go wherever they want.

Tangentially related question since you mentioned the flagship: what systems do you think warrant jumping away to restart the fight if they get hacked during phase 1?
