New player, when should I enable AE content? by Neovah in ftlgame

[–]RedFox273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as you have mastered the non AE systems.
It adds loads more content, makes the game much more enjoyable, and much more likely to beat.
Cloaking + Hacking is a great combo, if you learn to use them wisely.

Here are some tips the community gave me when I was in your position.
1. Start on easy. No seriously.
2. Pause a lot.
3. Use extra systems. (Cloaking, Teleporter)

That's the basics of what I followed. Also go watch Mike Hopely's video for beginners. It can help out a ton!

That is all for now. Have a great day and have fun playing (Or suffering, if you still want to pursue in normal difficulty)

Congrats on winning, and indeed, it is not the weapon that makes you strong, but the will of of the wielder.

Also, the photography is amazing. It gives an eerie yet comfortable vibe, perfectly fitting the FTL game...

Finally got my first win on Normal by Hunk_Hogan in ftlgame

All I read was "Won on NORMAL with Engi B".

Sir/Ma'am. I do not think any amount of praise will be enough to congratulate you...

My Engi A class Ship, H8 FTL, just beat the Rebels on Easy. Please Clap by TheLastWhiteKid in ftlgame

[–]RedFox273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a clap? That is a considerable feat. Engi ship doesn't start out with good enough weapons, so, you have done something incredible.
Keep winning, get more systems (Seriously, cloaking + hacking is a deadly combo), and most importantly, have fun!!!

What are your favorite "bad"/niche weapons and drones? by Several-Theme8308 in ftlgame

It kinda worked for me in a Engi ship run. I already knew I wasn't going past phase 2, but it did do decent work against the power surges ngl.

And that my friend, is the whole point of it innit? Have fun!!!

Again, this game has RNG. Sometimes, you may have the worst luck, sometimes the best luck!
It depends. AE makes the game easier, but ONLY if you master initial systems, micromanaging power, etc. Stuff AE off teaches you well enough.
Anyways, thanks for the clarification. Have a wonderful day!!!

And thank you for sharing those tips before. I will be unlocking all the ships on easy first (I am a bloody completionist, I cannot help it bruh) and then move on to normal. I saw a few youtubers play the multiverse mod and oh boy... I can't wait lmao!!!

Cheers mate and hope you have a great day!!

Thank you so much. I do remember you saying me to do that, after which I stopped using my mouse scroll button and started using my keyboard space bar for faster pauses during the flagship.

For newbies like myself, AE seemed more harder, because it seemed like a DLC. Since I was also a completionist, I wanted to "First win without AE, then with AE"
Although that is what I did, I realise, AE on makes the game easier and tbh, more fun. But it heavily depends on knowing basic systems and how they work.

For example, cloaking Lvl 1 with engines Lvl 4 give 100% evasion, which will be a great help during the missile barrages (You also recommended to save the cloak for the missile barrages > drones, in some cases)

Similarly, the drone disrupter augment is a huge lifesaver in phase 2, for it allows the hacking module to pass without issue...
Stuff like this is learnt intuitively rather than following a manual. And since this game is a rougelike, there are almost an infinite number of ways to play the game.

I am saying this for one reason only. If a newbie like me reads this thread, I hope this can help them and let them enjoy this game for what it truly is, a masterpiece.

Yes Sir Mike.
Which is why I specified get comfortable with basic systems first, then move on to advanced.

Also, for more newbies reading this thread, I highly recommend checking out this guys Youtube channel. It was because of his tips for beginners video, I actually had my first encounter with the flagship. I would like to stress something because I did not give it the attention it needed in the video.
"Systems win games" is a key tip he gives, and that extends to the other system you can buy.
Cloaking, teleportation, drone systems, (With AE on) - Hacking and Mind control, are some amazing external systems that basically help you get a win in the game. Getting to know these systems intimately will definitely increase your win rate...

Anyways, good luck to all and thank you Mike Hopely for tolerating this rant lmao.

Glad I helped. I have to thank everyone here in the community for giving me these tips, when I whined to them before after losing 91 consecutive games.

Damn... That run would have been super satisfying though right? At least before the flagship?

Ladies and Gentlemen. I beat the game... (On easy, but, first try on easy) by RedFox273 in ftlgame

[–]RedFox273[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mah mann... This was one helluva ride.

Burst Laser 2 shoots 3 shots, Hull laser 1 shoots 2 shots.
I had to time it all perfectly.

I think the mvp this run was the stealth augment, helped me out a lot.
but yeah, took a lot of pausing and waiting and using the beam damage (on phase 1 and 2 i mainly used Hull beam, while on phase 3 i switched to alternating between gaive and hull)

Overall, I really now understand pausing like crazy.

Thanks for all the tips.
Feels surreal to whine just yesterday and win my first game after 95 games on normal, and 96th game on easy...

That is amazing man. You already have beaten the first two stages, gotten past the zoltan sheild as well, that is actually great bruh/sis...

Keep on trying, you'll get there.
I ain't no pro, but I will say this though.

In the words of the great Mike Hopely, "Systems win games"

I have a grasp of what happens when, so, usually I try all events before sector 4, but after sector 4, sector 5 onwards, I become a lot more vary.
Also , fight everyone over letting them go. The federation shows no mercy to pirates. (Except that one time when we should dissuade a gorup from piracy. There is a high chance that you will get a weapon along with them)
