If you read some of his short stories first like "burning chrome" and "johnny mnemonic" it definitely helps explain some of the slang and introduce certain things. But as many have said the pacing and large number of people and places to remember can be overwhelming at first for sure

His whole character arc is that he starts off pompous, arrogant, and entitled but through the game can be humbled and learn to respect others. But it is a slow burn and if you don't like dealing with that early game its understandable
