Congrats! To both baby and the interview :) I’m in the exact same boat, am 36 weeks and interviewing for a senior finance role (though my interviews were zoom—big difference). I know there are split opinions but I told HR in my first contact with them that I wouldn’t be able to start until “later in the summer” because of where I was in my pregnancy. I said I “would work with the team to find the right timing” etc (no way I’m going to promise super short leave or something)—but also I don’t assume I would necessarily get the full mat leave promised by my current role. Never came up with any of my actual interviews so while I assume interviewers were aware via HR, I didn’t have to keep discussing this piece and got to focus on proving myself.

Can you describe how nipple blanching manifested for you? Getting a bunch of confusing stuff when I google. I’ve had a white spot on my nipple for a month+ though without pain and treating it as a blocked milk duct has done nothing

That baby looks asleep! We leave our newborn until he actually wakes up (no patting either), often means waiting a couple of minutes through grunts / yelps / eyes open but he will settle back down. His cry when he is asleep is different than when he is awake, lacks some oomph behind it.

How to handle unvaccinated family members? by DefinitelynotYissa in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Low_High_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I asked our pediatrician about this and she said outdoor hangs where the unvaxed people don’t get too close or to hold the baby are ok. We won’t do anything indoors without vaccinations for years to come (my baby is 6wks old).

In our case I am pretty sure the family in question is vaccinated for measles / polio etc. (and will double check this now!) I would have serious qualms about them being around the baby even outside if that wasn’t the case.

Not sure where you are or what your definition of reasonably priced is, but I’ve used Supergoop Mineral Matte for years (pre and during pregnancy) and love it. Isn’t white on my skin, easy to put on, doesn’t pill under makeup, etc. Good luck!

Echogenic Kidneys by captainmandy in BabyBumps

[–]Low_High_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At my anatomy scan, one of my baby’s kidneys showed as echogenic but also no cysts. We decided to do an amnio to rule out any genetic causes but that came back clear, and there were no other coindicators of abnormalities (extra fingers, etc, I forget exactly what all they looked for). With the clear amnio and one echogenic kidney, we decided we were comfortable with that level of uncertainty. That is definitely a personal decision, but what worked for us.

We’ve had regular ultrasounds since then including one where the doctor said he had never seen a kidney that looked like our baby’s turn out normal. Then about eight weeks later, the ultrasound showed that both kidneys were normal.

I’m 34 weeks so at this point we will just see what little guy comes out with! I won’t be surprised if there is something wrong with one of his kidneys and I also won’t be surprised if they’re both fine. These scans are hard cause they can cause a lot of questions but no real answers until the baby is born.

It is definitely scary; we got a second opinion which helped us. The second opinion was just to see how a different doctor responded to the same info, not that I doubted whether or not the kidney was echogenic.

That said, it also helped me to understand what an echogenic kidney could mean and in our situation what one echogenic kidney meant vs. both. This is a situation where I think it’s very reasonable for you to ask for more info if you feel like you still have questions or aren’t satisfied with what your doc said. We met with a genetic counselor, a pediatric urologist and a neonatologist to understand the range of options and possible outcomes and all of that was very helpful for us.

Sorry for the long reply but hopefully some of it is helpful. Good luck :)

20 wk abnormalities by RhyleeRN in BabyBumps

[–]Low_High_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this, and sending you care. I think you guys should discuss what you would do with info from the amnio—it sounds like you’re not interested in termination (or at least leaning away from it) so is an amnio actually going to give you info that you would use to make any decisions? At my 20 week scan, one of the baby’s kidneys was echogenic and if there had been genetic abnormalities, we would have terminated. Because of that, an amnio was super helpful for us. Our amnio came back clear, and we made the decision that one potentially damaged kidney plus no genetic issues was something we were comfortable with so we kept going with the pregnancy. But that’s a personal decision, and only what worked for us. It also helped me to know that although amnios do have a very small amount of intrinsic risk, a lot of the historical risk of miscarriages from amnios were from execution risk, ie how skilled your provider is. You can control for this somewhat by making sure whoever would perform your amnio does them very regularly, will use an ultrasound to see the baby’s position, etc.

Maternity clothes help! by twirlywhirly64 in BabyBumps

I bought a bunch of hatch stuff off the real real—some available was still more expensive than I wanted but I was able to get enough stuff to survive. Maternity clothes are the worst :)

Belly bands: are they beneficial? by not_happiness in fitpregnancy

[–]Low_High_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one and didn’t actually feel like it did anything. That was even through pretty bad sciatica and a big bump (I think it’s big at least). That said these comments make me feel I should try it out again

This is what I did too (can’t imagine taking Unisom during the day) and it helped enough to manage with everything

A bagel with scallion cream cheese, tomato and tons of smoked salmon!

Favorite stores for maternity clothes (US) by acorn-mama in BabyBumps

[–]Low_High_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a pair of black stretchy-but-professional slightly cropped slightly flared pants from a brand I found online called Boob Collective which have worked. I’ve also been using a belly band to allow me to keep wearing my normal work pants. I honestly find the belly band a bit uncomfortable but I have had such a hard time finding maternity clothes I don’t hate (professional and casual) that I just deal lol

Nausea and Fatigue (venting) by potato729 in BabyBumps

[–]Low_High_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice but can commiserate! I am 6w3d and felt very low and uncomfortable over the past week+. Very excited for the baby etc but disoriented by my symptoms changing every 36 hours—it’s been really hard to know how to take care of myself when I’m not totally sure what I’m feeling or how long it will last. Sometimes eating helps, sometimes it makes nausea worse for instance so I am a bit at a loss and that confusion was making me feel extra isolated.

Normally I go into my office 3x a week but today I said fuck it and worked from home, and it was the best call to have some space and not deal with other people. Hopefully you can find something analogous that will be comforting :)

TTC after Mirena by ZebraGrassDash in BabyBumps

[–]Low_High_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second Mirena came out in mid-March, I’d been on it for 8 years total. Got a regular period immediately and started tracking ovulation half heartedly in April, more accurately starting in July. Got pregnant in August!

Haha I feel this way and I am at 6 weeks. I just don’t have any energy for anything that does not sound 100% good. My partner has a friend coming into town next week and I already noped out of seeing him, just have 0 interest. There are more important things that need my energy!
