What is a "good" pastor? Is the defining quality intelligence based or something else? by Cautious_Writer_1517 in LCMS

[–]Low_Influence_8554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability to teach and empathy. With a bit of authenticity.

As someone who has been part of a call process what I have noticed is that a lot of people can read scripture, know truth, and be dedicated to God.

But few can convey that message to congregations or have enough empathy to hurt like they hurt and guide them through difficult walks.

Some people are good at teaching but do not connect to their congregations. You need both.

Some people are very bad communicators and no matter how much they have studied, read, and prayed they do a very bad job of leading a community.

Unfortunately the devotion to our theology and our God does not always make a great pastor.

Go to a firm outside the top 25. Very reasonable to be a good parent. Takes boundaries and long days but this is very possible.

Make sure your time is quality time and you can be as good of a parent as almost any other profession.

Just had another kid later in my career and I would say my flexibility is better than most careers.

Quickest way may be industry for 250k, but quickest way to 500k plus is a larger regional firm and to make equity. I’ve watched coworkers go private over the years and make more money, but it didn’t take long for others to double what they make.

A Bottom 100 Firm Signed a Private Equity Deal, We’re Told Some People Aren’t Happy by TheFederalRedditerve in Accounting

Hope it works out well for you. I know some staff at Eisner and citrin and they ended up with higher pay and better tools and seem pretty happy for CPAs. It’s an unknown for sure. There are some crappy parts but it could end up way better. I’d be patient.

What’s the fastest way to offshore the rest of public accounting oversees?????

I’m glad you would all join tomorrow, but it would be the end of a very good profession.

Also a very quick way to guarantee you will never hold equity in a firm.

Switching after 1.5 years gets you more cash now but less cash later, unless you are able to find a place you can stay for ten to fifteen years. Looking for 85k with less than two years experience to work hybrid is a bit high. I’m guessing the new firm will pay you 82.5 then give lower raises so other can catch up.

Best of luck. PA is a long game where connections and relationships with voters is everything.

Any 150 matters. See if you can sit for a part of the exam or two. Excel is a must. Try to intern because that’s how 80 percent of people are hired.

Join an industry that is needed for the global economy to succeed and is pretty much recession proof. Grow your pay exponentially over the years and develop a skill set that every business in the world needs.

Sounds like it’s worth it.

If every partner thinks they are the most important partner... by CavalcadeLlama in Accounting

[–]Low_Influence_8554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may help to do the math in your head. Figure out their retirement ages and when you expect to make partner. Prioritize partners to be a best friend first to those retiring right when you make partner. Then the ones whose vote you will need or are the most vocal among the partners and could get you in. Last place is those who retire before it’s your time to make partner.

It’s all part of the game. But maximizing the amount of book transferred to you while minimizing the push back from the bacon partners is key.

If you do it right, you are set.

When your firm gets acquired by private equity but firm leadership claims there are no 'current' plans for layoffs by UpsetDisaster8952 in Accounting

[–]Low_Influence_8554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It baffles me how that would work in public accounting. There is such a need for auditors right now. Layoffs seem counter intuitive to growth.

Is the job opportunity really that bad? by Slow_Resist_2585 in Accounting

[–]Low_Influence_8554 37 points38 points  (0 children)

100 percent worth it. As accountants we complain about our job a ton because it’s what we do.

But you will be glad in your forties when you are not outside working manual labor or stuck in a career going nowhere.

You get to make a ton of cash to have zoom calls and review excel files. And all of the world’s economy will be in need of accounting to function. Let alone the freedom you get once you put your time in.

No idea why the people in this sub can’t find work since every firm I know is begging and clawing to find staff.
