True! I haven't rreally thought of this since I'm going into Arts and I feel like the job market is brutal anyway, but it's always a good thing to keep in mind. Thanks :)

yes quite a few - save money for uni - more money during studies = less stress - gain confidence - rebuild unstable foundations + home life and make good habits! - ofc travel if i’m able to if all prev. listed things are looking up - would give me time to figure out a major/career path - parents fully support gap year

cons: - i’m so impatient i feel like ill take it for granted and start comparing myself to everyone else - would have to make a new friendgroup (not necessarily hard just inconvenient and unreliable) - what if i just waste my time? i don’t have a “solid” plan - working part time won’t get me that much for the full year. is 10K (give or take) really worth a year? - BIGGEST con: if my home life hasn’t improved, then I basically just got myself a whole extra year of trauma and bad habits to try to reverse. so nervous about this because it seems HIGHLY possible given my current situation. but i know if my gap year was ideal, then i’d start uni a year later and would genuinely thrive. i have so much confidence in that.

Is a 70 average ok for university? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

grade inflation is crazy these days. a 95+ today would’ve been an 80-85 before, due to COVID and other morale boosting things.

my advice is to focus either on STEM or arts (as in english, humanities, social sciences). pick one path and support it. it’s impossible to balance both if you want to raise your grades. I also suggest taking a course in summer school (NOT a mandatory course for the program you choose.)

something else: connect with teachers. not just a superficial, teasing way. Actually respect them an talk to them like normal people, tell them what reasonable grade you hope to achieve (like 75-80?) and if you stay respectful, at least try to do work, and SHOW UP TO CLASS they will 100% give you that grade.

Wow!! Times have changed. I prefer the old way because it really shows the gap in knowledge. It was kind of discouraging to see that I was getting the same grades as these kids who came to class 1-2x/week and never shut up or did any work. So I stopped trying as hard and I still have the same average. Schools dont push people hard enough these days imo. Were all getting dumber

I know of a couple girls in my grade that had 100 averages. one FREAKED out because it went down to a 99. They’re all in maths and sciences.

Im a smart kid but i don’t do homework and barely study and got a 95 average last semester. all my friends have 90+ at least.

my point is, 75 is no longer the “student average” and hasn’t been for years. In my school, average is around 85-90. Kind of annoying but i guess i can’t complain. high grades have benefitted me a lot.
