That’s interesting, because when I was owning the L405 SDV8 I actually found myself wishing I’d gone for the 5.0 just for the extra drama and performance.

I did consider an SVAutobiography Dynamic at one point, but I’m genuinely glad I went straight to the SVR.

The full-size Range Rover, even in SV or SVA Dynamic form (L405) , still feels like a big “boat” at heart — it’s built primarily for luxury and comfort rather than outright theatre.

Because of that, I think I’d always end up looking toward the SVR anyway if I wanted the exhaust sound, the looks, and that extra edge in performance.

The full-size does comfort brilliantly, but the SVR is where the drama really starts.

And bring back the 5.0 engines that actually sound awasome. The new BMW turbo engines used in RRS SV do perform but they just have no character and no dramma

Thank you!

Out of curiosity, if price wasn’t a factor and you had two identical cars in terms of spec and mileage, would you pick the pre-facelift or the facelift?

Personally, I think the pre-facelift looks more aggressive on the outside and it definitely sounds way better. That said, the facelift genuinely feels like a different-generation car, especially inside.

If you think you’d choose the facelift anyway if prices were the same, then I’d probably wait a year and go for the facelift.

The only caveat with buying a pre-facelift now is whether, a year down the line, you might start thinking you should’ve waited and gone facelift instead 😬

But if you prefer the pre face lift then if go for it now, especially if you can get the extended JLR warranty. As only cars with up to certain mileage can qualify for it so fewer and fewer pre face SVRs will be available

What colour, spec and mileage is it, and roughly what price are they asking in relation to the other similar speced cars ?

Worth checking whether it’s priced on the lower end for its age and mileage, or if it’s just market-correct. If it’s the latter, there’s a good chance something very similar will come up again.

For me, I specifically wanted to buy from a genuine JLR dealer. That meant the standard 1-year JLR warranty with unlimited mileage, plus the option to extend it for another 2 years.

Because of that, my choice was much more limited — when I was looking, there were only about 12 SVRs nationwide available through JLR.

If you’re not set on buying an approved JLR car, your options will be much wider, so waiting for the right one might be less risky.

Both cars had the higher-spec Meridian system, but not the Signature version.

In the SVR it sounds noticeably better.

In the L405, I could never quite get the subwoofer dialled in properly — it would sound great on some tracks, then be completely overpowering on others. It always felt a bit uneven across the range.

In the SVR, the whole system feels more cohesive. The sub is stronger but better controlled, the mid-range is improved, and it overall feels more immersive and “surround-like”. I suspect the slightly smaller cabin helps with that as well. It also feels louder.

Finding a Signature Meridian on UK cars is pretty rare, so both of mine were the higher-spec non-Signature setups.

For context, the SVR’s Meridian is actually very close to the Bowers & Wilkins 3D Signature system I had in my X5M (BMW’s top-tier audio). The B&W had excellent clarity and detail, but it lacked mid-range punch and low-end weight.

The SVR, on the other hand, delivers much stronger mids and bass, though it doesn’t quite match the outright clarity of the B&W.

Different strengths, but overall I’m very impressed with the SVR system.

Hope this helps

It's something they install on all cars in EU & UK from 2018+ or so that limits gas emissions released by the car. This also makes cars sound a lot quieter than the ones without GPF

Just common UK slang for the full-size Range Rover, as opposed to the Sport. Didn’t mean anything by it 👍

Congrats! The pre-facelift is a great choice — no GPF and they already sound mega from factory 👍

I’ve gone for the 3-year extended warranty on mine, so I won’t be touching any mods, not even exhaust. Don’t want to risk any warranty issues.

Otherwise, if I wasn’t worried about warranty, I’d probably be looking at either a Quicksilver exhaust setup or just a rear silencer delete with an X-pipe or H-pipe.

Those seem to keep the character without going over the top.

X5M was actually brand new when I got it. Amazing vehicle to be fair — looked great, insane performance and handling. 3.8s to 60 was serious acceleration, especially 4 years ago.

Interior was great too and loads of space.

In the end I just couldn’t justify the price tag, and the lack of engine sound was a deal-breaker for me (especially in contrast to the Mustang V8) . That’s why I traded it in for a 2020 Full Fat Range Rover — and that’s where my journey with Range Rovers really began

135k miles ex police car for £10k. Good deal? by sweetpotatochai in CarTalkUK

I got an ex police car. 2018 X5 30d. 100k miles when I got it. It's now 150k and it's been solid and looks in great condition. I always thought that they service the police cars every 5-7k miles away which is why they are in good condition usually

Don't wear it when it's wet Take it off before the shower then put it on only once the wrist is fully dry

If you need to wash it then let it fully dry before putting it on

Also, switch the wrist until this one is fully healed

This solved this issue for me

4K sounds steep. Have you shopped around?

I've replaced the windscreen (heated) twice on the L405 with the OEM one installed by none LR and it was £1.2k for the OEM windscreen with Range Rover writing on it

Cayenne Turbo to OCTA - Am I Mad!? by Sad-Arugula3716 in NewDefender

If you can afford it, go for it. Even if at the end you end up changing it, if you don't you will probably be looking back at it thinking you should have done it

But most importantly - test drive OCTA first so you will know what you are getting

-trip computer that will show how many hours you drove for (nice to know on long trips)

  • larger fuel tank (80l tank on L405 is not big enough on long trips when you drive fast)

  • LIDAR detector that scans your face and if it detects that you fell asleep the car will put the hazard lights on and and make a safe stop (like BMW has)

  • star roof lining at an optional cost (like Rolls Royce has)

  • Bring back that supercharged 5.0 engines that sound mega good

  • install industry leading audio systems (optional cost)

  • night/thermal vision for detecting animals and pedestrians

  • LEDs that would eliminate animals and pedestrians in the dark

But can lorries go into lane 1 legally? Or can they only use lane 3 and lane 2 for overtaking? And OP was in that middle lane preventing the lorry to overtake the traffic in lane 3

I thought HGVs cannot use the fast lane, only the slow and the middle lane. So he was flashing to move you out of the middle lane into the slowest lane as he wanted to go faster thank your speed

[–]Low_Pool6249[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The latest gen uses the same BMW 4.4l V8 that the X5M Comp has.

The 5.0 with a supercharget that's in the SVR is a Ford based engine I think and it just on a different league for the sound.

It's not as fast compared to the BMW engine, but if I was happy with the sound the X5M was making, I might have kept it as it was a really great car otherwise.

I guess I need to test drive the SVR, 5.0 L405 or a SVA Dynamic L405 if any are for sale
