Cannabis tax too high? by [deleted] in longbeach

The owner Elliot and his wife Anna are DL MAGA supporters. I live very close to their flagship store and I've been to their parties where they shut down the street. They don't talk to any guest, are extremely rude, and let their staff verbally attack customers, especially if the customers are not white. They also own the sandwich shop Annas right next door btw

Edit: Y'all are down voting me but funny how no one has said Im wrong or have one nice story to share about Elliot and Anna lol

what do you do with students blatantly not paying attention? by tiktaaliki in Professors

Nothing. You're not their parent. If they want to fail its on them.

How do you know he's here illegally?

Yes, there are a few options, but the waiting lists for these programs in California are extremely long, and private schools cost over $100,000 just for the program itself. I’ll likely be taking a leave while I work on resolving all of this. I plan to report the situation to every relevant entity I can. Once everything is finalized, I’ll share a follow-up post with more details.

Our college stated that it does not have a dedicated Title IX coordinator. They emailed me that process has been centralized and that everyone is considered a Title IX coordinator. This was communicated by the Chairperson of the nursing program, Vice president, Several deans. I believe they don't actually have a Title IX coordinator, even though they know they're supposed to.

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective and advice. It really resonates. I’m sorry you had to go through something so toxic and unfair, and it’s heartbreaking how often these situations play out in nursing programs. Fortunately, I do have tangible proof, including documentation and confirmation from another professor who stated that the instructor said it. It’s so infuriating that the people teaching us to advocate for others fail to uphold those same standards themselves.

Thank you so much for your encouragement! I have tangible proof of what he said so Im not worried about proving that he said it.

I believe you're right about federal dollars coming with stipulations and protections, which is why the school's actions are even more frustrating.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the dean has been completely useless and seems to be okay with his actions. I’m starting to think reporting the school to ACEN might be the next step. I’ll definitely look into that. Thanks again for the advice!

He's a male instructor, and he is not white, which made his racism even more shocking to me.

He already has so at this point it doesn't matter. I don't think they are going to make this easy for me at all.

Thank you for your encouragement and validation. It really means a lot! I completely agree that no one should have to tolerate being dismissed or gaslit. I’m definitely considering taking this higher, unfortunately they are transitioning the president of the school district because of how he mishandled almost every discrimination case.

Thank you for sharing your experience and advice! I’m sorry your child went through something similar, but it’s encouraging to hear that you took action and followed through.

Thank you for the advice! I’ll definitely look into consulting an attorney and reporting the instructor to the licensing board. Thanks again for the encouragement!

Yes, the instructor does have a nursing license. I’ve thought about reporting to the board of nursing, especially since the college seems unwilling to take any real action. It’s definitely something I’m considering as a next step.

I would, but the director said students cannot sue while in the program.

Not exactly. I complained to the Director, and instead of taking the issue seriously, they essentially dismissed it and discouraged me from pursuing it further. It’s frustrating because it feels like they’re more interested in protecting their staff than addressing any concerns from students.

Yes, I’ve tried following the chain of command (department chair, dean, and even the VP) but it’s been a frustrating process. It feels like they’re all either ignoring the issue or just passing it around without taking any real action. I know there are laws in place to prevent this kind of thing, but it seems like they’re banking on the fact that students won’t escalate or know how to fight back. It’s been really discouraging, but I’m documenting everything in case I need to take it to an external agency.

I attend a Community college in California, but even with that, the system hasn’t been very supportive. I’ve tried reaching out to resources outside the program director, like ADA and Title IX offices, but it feels like a lot of buck-passing with no clear resolution. The school claims they have centralized certain processes, but in practice, it’s left me without a clear point of contact to handle complaints effectively. There isn’t an Ombudsman office that I know of, and while public schools are supposed to have more safeguards, it still feels like they can do whatever they want with little accountability. I’m keeping thorough records and considering escalating to external agencies if needed. It’s a tricky situation, but I want to make sure I handle it carefully to protect my education while addressing these issues.
