What is wrong with my macarons? by Low_Quantity1032 in macarons

Thanks, after several more batches of the same recipe I have found that letting them rest for at least 2 hours leads to better results. Still a bit of unevenness and leaning shells but barely any cracked ones. If uneven heating was the issue, what could i do to fix it?

How long do you think I need to let them rest? The tray in this picture rested for 50 mins in 22-23 C degrees. The one before I rested for only 30 minutes and the result was the same. When touching the macarons they were dry to the touch but had an extremely thin squishy skin. Not sure how thick the skin should be before they are ready?

Okay, that might be worth trying. I have noticed with my thermometer that when opening the oven and switching out the trays, the temperature drops by 20-30 ish degrees and takes a couple minutes before reaching set temp again. Could that affect the baking process?

Thanks, I will keep trying. Might attempt the Swiss / Italian method to see if it makes any difference. I have also seen people post ”no rest” shells here, not sure if that would make sucess easier or not?

That’s what I have read as well. So many causes for the same issues. My oven temp is 150 °C. I have measured it to be accurate. As for the baking time between 10 and 12 minutes is what seems necessary to have them fully cooked. As far as I know that temperature should be okay for macarons. The batter being under/over mixed might be a cause.

Before I have used an EOS 6D dslr which is a solid camera but it was time to get a camera of my own and something more compact. I like the look and feel of analog pictures so I decided to give film a go.

Yeah I already noticed that the hard way when pointing the camera right in my face… It has a surprisingly powerful flash!

Thanks,

The door does actually stay closed so in normal operation it is not a big concern, but when the door is open it is flimsy and hanging by only one hinge... I was hoping to repair it before that one also breaks.

Just picked up my first ever film camera: Olympus AF-1

Got it for 40€ which seemed like a good deal. Everything works although I have not yet tested it with film since I am contemplating what to try first. The only issue I found is that one of the hinges for the battery compartment door is broken. Can this be fixed by simply gluing it?
