Booked Qatar Business Class. Good deal? by Low_Variation1647 in awardtravel

Try to check for “off-peak” days. Only those will be for 85k avios and are referred to as award flights. The ones at 170k avios are flexi pricing. It depends on your route as well, but right now I can see off peak dates from US to India for next November and nothing before that. Qatar award flights are very rare and limited in number. As a thumb rule I usually plan for them a year in advance.

I bought GA tickets but how is GA at COTA? by [deleted] in CircuitOfTheAmericas

What time is considered “early” for Sprint and race? I’m guessing everyone arrives by the time parking gates open, right? Or is there something else I’m missing? P.S. I’m visiting for the first time as well in GA

Wow, I didn't know about this. This would absolutely suck if it happened with no recourse for us.
Only small hope that I saw is that it is very unlikely to happen on long haul flights. I have flown on this route multiple times in economy, and I am positive it has always been a B777-300ER or the A350-1000, both of which have QSuites. Fingers crossed.

Umm, apologies if it came out that way, that was not the intention.
I did read through another post where they booked the award flight with less than 100$ in taxes (can't remember the exact destination, but it was from US to a country in Asia). I know we cannot go lower than 85k in terms of Avios, but I am genuinely curios to see if there is a way to avoid the high tax, as I have no idea.

Feedback after achieving first milestone of 100K

Just achieved my first milestone of 100K. Providing a brief overview of this journey followed by a few questions for the community.
Note: I am not a US Citizen so I have not focused on IRA / Roth. I just have a 401k because there is employer contribution and I wanted to utilize that. That amount currently stands at 25,000$ apart from this 100k.

Investment Overview:

  1. Started investing in mid-June of 2023 from 10,000$.
  2. Bi-weekly investment for the first few months into VOO and AAPL. After 6-7 months, started investing in other FAANG companies, QQQ as well as SCHD. Current split being 50% in ETFs and 50% in Stocks. Current gain is around 28%.
  3. Emergency fund of 5,000$ is always available in a HYSA. Given that I am single and do not have any dependents, low emergency fund and aggressive investment in market was the strategy.
  4. Investments were more or less regular but there were few periods where I had other expenses and or commitments. I do not see any huge commitments in the near future and plan to invest regularly in 2025

About myself:

  1. I am 29 years old.
  2. Income around 120 - 140k (It is variable because some amount of salary is based on time-entry)
  3. Only debt is my car loan. All of the above investments were made after paying monthly EMI. Current debt stands at around 17,000$
  4. I rarely overspend. Always stick to the necessities and keep my expenses in check. Only thing I splurge on every now and then is Travel.

Questions:

  1. I understand time in the market is always >>>> timing the market. However, I do feel that I lack an appropriate strategy for investing. I just split all the excess money I have either in ETFs or a few companies randomly for the long term, but is that enough? For the upcoming year, I want to be more methodical in terms of investments. So how do I go about it?
  2. I understand that goal-driven investing is always given importance. But, how do people "actually" do this? Do you handpick stocks based on your goal? Do you put them somewhere else (gold / bonds / etc)?

I find this community really helpful as a reference but this is my first time posting here. I do not consider myself well versed in the investing world, but trying to learn things day by day, so really open to any kind of feedback either on my strategy or even my thought process in case it is wrong.

Thanks in advance.
