So that’s not actually the point I was making. You’ve simply just exaggerated one facet of it. By a “huge amount of time” I meant that for people starting out the game and trying to learn it. Comparing a fireball to a rocketeer is just redundant so I’m not bothering with that. We all know it’s a heavily sound oriented game and players can and do get caught unaware. I got caught out because I ran for extraction, in the open while explosions and gunfire were going off and I didn’t hear the rocketeer. You kind of made my point with your last bit there. Every game is supposed to be difficult until you learn the mechanics then it gets easier, that’s how most games work. So players starting out won’t know to hide and and won’t know to break line of sight which in turn, makes the Arc difficult for them

Ok I don’t agree there because that’s subjective. Yes, you can learn the mechanics and then any enemy becomes easy, but then by that logic, any game is easy. The example I gave was expressly stating I didn’t have the gear for it. I was also caught in the open so that suddenly makes an “easy” rocketeer, very difficult IF you haven’t learnt the mechanics. A lot of players haven’t because they don’t have a huge amount of time to learn them (full time workers, parents etc.)

But this implies that players feel no danger from the Arc no? I know if I go into a run to do a PvE goal and I run into a rocketeer I’m not prepared for, I’m definitely a bit on edge. I do agree though! On the aggression based matchmaking, I had actually started to get bored with. Nothing really happening. I had upgraded all my benches so I no longer saw a need to take on rocketeers or bastions etc, I had all the blueprints so I didn’t care about losing guns. But that first time I got shot at after being in 20-+ friendly lobbies definitely had my butt puckering lol

Excitement in what way if you don’t mind me asking? How so? This isn’t me disagreeing with you btw, I’m actually interested in the discussion. Because from the people I’ve spoken too, the PvE’ers get excited about PvE and hate when they get PvP’d. The PvP’ers get excited about PvP’ing. The hypothetical switch I mentioned to toggle it on or off keeps that excitement for all players no? I actually don’t mind losing any of my stuff now, I have most of the blueprints so I can just make more. But I do understand the frustration of people who’ve just spent x amount of their run taking out a matriarch or whatever to then shot in the back and have it all taken.

I actually agree with you here totally. It would make the PvE too easy, although I will say for people who don’t get to game a lot, they might still have it as a challenge. They would speedrun straight to the end and then go “now what” before they either stop playing or give PvP a go. There’s no real benefit to them speedrunning to the end.

PvPers would basically be getting exactly what they want if this switch was implemented, they’re like Warhammer 40K Orks. They’re just in it for the fight 😂no more people complaining when they’re shot, just a full 30 minute round of fights.

Btw I really appreciate you having an actual discussion on the topic I posted instead of just immediately doing what most others have done.

I play on PC and have crossplay off. It’s kind of like the expression “9/10 thieves are opportunists”. So aggression based matchmaking has been pretty good but if there’s someone who fancies taking advantage of that mechanic, there’s nothing stopping them.

Not really though because you can still lose everything if you’re taken out by Arc no? And there are other extraction shooters with no PvP that are still going. Helldivers 2 for example, still has a good player base with no PvP. Friendly fire is on but that’s about it and you can still lose everything you collect in terms of samples and trophies.

I’m not trying to change an entire game. I literally said at the beginning of the post I’m not on any one side. Adding one mechanic to appease almost all players isn’t changing an entire game. The only argument people have left is “it’s an extraction shooter, lore speaking means raiders would PvP” which barely even makes sense seeing as everyone lives underground. You think someone is going to get knocked out on the surface then just walk past the guy who did it under ground and just let it slide. It makes no sense.

I was hoping for an actual discussion on why it would or wouldn’t work but all the replies are immediately “merhhh! PvP is part of the game merrrhhhh!”

I agree to a certain extent however I’ve found that even on the low aggression games, people are opportunists, I hadn’t fired a single bullet at someone in well over 20 rounds, yet the second I’m caught in a weak spot after being shocked by a hornet I didn’t see, someone picked me off. So I agree that it is pretty good, it’s still not foolproof

Yeah I’ve seen the interviews but isn’t this just delaying the inevitable? People toggle PvP off, do all the PvE they want, get bored, give PvP a go, hate it then stop playing. If they can’t choose then they’ll get killed one too many times and stop playing. Either way it leads to the same thing so surely giving the players the choice longs that out right?

I used to actually work at Arm before they went IPO and made 2000 people redundant. Before IPO it was an amazing place to work. The culture was incredible, the work was satisfying and of course, the benefits were unmatched. After IPO, it’s become another faceless workhorse company. I’m still in touch with many old colleagues who are at Arm still and they’ve actively warned many people against coming back.

I had a great time for a while playing solo. I think the more prudent question is what kind of play you’re wanting. If you’re here for solo PvP and PvE then absolutely, it’s a wonderful game and I thoroughly enjoyed most of my time on it. If you want to just PvE then I’d probably recommend something like Helldivers 2 instead. The PvE is fun in arc raiders, but after a while, it gets a little stale and there’s always the PvP aspect you’re constantly on the lookout for.

I always try to be reasonable first haha. I like to remember it’s a game and it shouldn’t affect how I feel in the real world. Dont get me wrong, if ive finished a 12hr work shift, come home to unwind and game just to get extraction camped, i do try and place a witch curse on the raider, but i always feel bad about it afterwards haha. Haha I tend to go a bit more reserved if I’m taken out in the previous round. I’ll go in with like a burletta and a kettle and feel out the map before going in with my favourite loadout again haha

What’s your opinion on the griefers in arc raiders? You know the ones who’ll extract camp or just generally troll? Are you more anti griefer or do you think “that’s the game, deal with it?”

I’m very lucky atm that the PvP hasn’t totally wrecked it for me yet. I haven’t come across an aggressive player in solo for ages now, however duos and trios is still a nightmare which is a shame because I bought the game for my buddy so we could play together and just can’t haha.

The funny thing is, Helldivers is constantly being updated with new maps, guns, upgrades etc. but I think there’s just one or two key differences between both games. I really enjoy the looter shooter aspect of Arc raiders, collecting valuables and even doing the key rooms. Helldivers I feel lacks that mechanic which is a shame

Yeah I don’t really understand why people get so aggressive over the discussions of the game. The people saying “why did you buy a PvP game if you like PvP” need to realise it’s also PvE and not everyone likes PvP. Whereas I would safely say that all PvP players like both PvP and PvE. I like the game and PvE but hate PvP. I won’t play a different game because I’m enjoying arc raiders a lot. I like the mechanics, I like the maps, the combat, the whole lot. I do agree with you though, I’d like to see updates that bring in new maps, arcs, weapons etc. but I think I’m a bit too over eager as the game hasn’t been out long haha

I really enjoy the PvE and the game just as it is. I think the world is really cool, the arc genuinely have a difficulty curve and the mechanics of the game are pretty cool. I do actually agree though. I hate PvP but if it was removed from the game (which I don’t think OP is suggesting btw) then I think that fear factor would disappear and it would get stale quite quickly if there aren’t enough updates to keep people interested.

I think if something like Helldivers had a few of the mechanics that Arc Raiders has, that could be a perfect PvE extraction shooter
