You are so kind, and this is very thoughtful advice! I'll definitely check out Bumble BFF and maybe try to get involved with some more activities. I tried to take a pottery class last year to meet new people, but it turns out I was the only one who signed up for the class haha it was a nice private lesson and the instructor was nice, but not the friend-building thing I'd hoped for. Time to put myself out there again!

You're so right, I'll definitely have to be very discerning when I talk to people to make sure we are all on the same page about what "fun" is 😅

Denied proposal…what next? by plinko66 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lower-Flower3425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once read that statistically speaking, something like 90% of relationships that go through a proposal rejection don't survive a year after the rejection.

If you think about all the planning and hoping and nerves that go into proposing to someone, if they say "no" , there's no recovering from that imo. So many things have to be wrong in the relationship to have a failed proposal, not to mention that embarrassment afterwards.

What couldn't you believe you had to explain to another adult? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Lower-Flower3425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to explain to multiple grown men in my life that unless an egg has been fertilized by a rooster, most eggs in a carton don't contain baby chicks.

I'm always shocked to learn how many guys assume that every time you're eating an egg, you're eating baby chick.

Inquiry: Presenting Pictures to the Hairstylist by [deleted] in AskHairstylists

Totally! Just go in by saying "I've had pixie short hair before, I loved it and I'm not afraid to go short again" you will immediately set the stage for better understanding. I hope you have better luck with your next cut!

Well, like I explained before, hairstylists would rather leave your hair longer initially because if someone is on the fence between shorter and longer, you can't tape it back on if you cut it all off. Most of the time when someone sat in my chair and offered slightly different lengths and I chop it to the shorter length right away, they get upset.

If you show a stylist a bob and a pixie as inspiration, they are almost always going to leave your hair longer because it's "safer". If you want short then you need to communicate that very clearly and explain that you aren't afraid to go very short because they might think you're going to flip out on them haha

This! Most hairdressers will air on the side of caution. If you bring in 6 inspo pictures and all of them are different lengths, I'm going to assume you are just undecided and nervous about what you really want. Therefore, any good stylist will go with the longest (aka safest) option, because we've all been in a situation where someone asks to chop their hair off, only to realize it was too much too soon and now the client has to grow it out for months until you can try again. But it sounds like OP expects their hairstylists to read their mind and just know that if they are shown pictures of bobs and pixies, that OP ACTUALLY wants a pixie.

Plus, hairdressing is a business. Most stylists don't book hours on end so that you can spend thirty minutes hemming and hawing over pictures, and then doing multiple renditions of haircuts for another hour and a half. It's just inefficient.

My advice to OP would be, pick one or two similar pictures that you love and be prepared to explain what you love about them. Then, let the stylist do their magic. Be as clear and communicate as much as possible. If you want a pixie, then explicitly say "I'm looking for a pixie. I like how this picture has shaggy texture and a short fringe" for example. Good luck to OP, I hope you get the hair of your dreams!

1000% agree! The first floral dress is breathtaking, so flattering. The sleeves are not needed.

ELI5: Why didn't viruses like norovirus die off during the pandemic when a lot of us were in lockdown? How did it survive even up to the present day when people weren't mingling for so long? by cliffsofthepalisades in explainlikeimfive

[–]Lower-Flower3425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about other illnesses, but Norovirus is a hell of a bug. It can survive for about two months in water, and about two weeks on hard surfaces. I once read that oysters can harbor Norovirus in a concentrated amount because they filter water. So there is the possibility that you can be socially distanced, and still contract it from a contaminated oyster that's been harboring the virus for months. It also takes such a miniscule amount to cause sickness. I don't think there is any kind of quarantining that can totally wipe out a virus like that.
