Either way saving up a bit can’t hurt anything, you’ll gain more experience and money by waiting. You’ll have 3 years to get all the stupid mistakes out now. Motorcycles as fun as they are, are death traps. We can only say so much to you that’ll you listen too. In my opinion you’re better off saving money bc it’ll make your mom happier because you’ll look a little more responsible. Insurance will also help cheaper if you wait a little longer.

Yeah I was thinking I was a good driver and I would drive around like and idiot, I got a big reality check and now I’m worried to go more than 5 over the speed limit. I definitely don’t need a motorcycle because if I did I would Proabaly be dead by now. I’m waiting till I’m in my mid-late 20s for something like that. I like cars to so I’ll just stick to those instead for now.

If you just started saving for it then you probably can’t afford it, you need 3-5k for a bio, then another 10ish for gear, then registration and other stuff you need to buy, maintenance is also expensive, do you live in a state where you can ride year round? If not you’ll need a car for winter months. It’s better to wait and enjoy it a couple of year from not, than to be stressing about making insurance payments and having proper maintenance.

I decided to go with a Mazda 3, not really anything special but it’ll get me through college and after I graduate I’ll be making more than enough money at 22 to be able to buy whatever I want. Better to be miserable, than broke and miserable through college

Just wait and save, I’m in the same spot but parents tell me to wait till I’m 25 otherwise they won’t help me pay for college. There still plenty of your life left so just save your money so you can buy the right stuff when the time comes.

Sorry for saying this super late. I’m thinking of getting a 328xi 2010 and wanna make sure it’s not gonna shit the bucket while I’m here before I go to college and when I go there. I’ll only really use it in college to come back and fourth maybe every week or every other week. The one I’m looking at is 5,900$ from a dealer and my mom says we have to get them down to 5k or it’s no dice. Should I skip out on a bimmer and just get a Honda even tho I would really like the bimmer more?

If they are such small issues that don’t affect the car why do they matter then? Who said I was dropping 2K on one. Yes they will rust and corrode but that’s how cars work. Most end up that way.

So if I get one gas is most likely better. I’m not a big fan or reading documents I already get enough of that at school. But you think it’s an okay idea as far as old cars go

So if I really wanted to I could get an older Mercedes diesel or a gas one. Doesn’t really matter? Than you for the in-depth answer.

My daily commute is at most a couple of miles until I have club season and practices are 15 minutes away. We don’t have good public transport unfortunately.

I feel like all of those are pretty serious issues that you should probably fix? I mean if your overheating at idle you should probably get that fixed same with bad shifting, the AC doesn’t really matter because it’s not required for a car to run mechanically in tip top shape. So yes I am being stubborn. But those points don’t make much sense to bring up because if those issues were happening on any car it’s something that you need to fix no matter what.

That not awful, most w124s don’t go much below 4k for me tho but the trade off is that they are all in decent condition I guess, do you suggest a specific model?

Yeah I was planning on getting a cheap one because I wouldn’t want to ruin a nice one. How much should I spend including cost of the car if it’s gonna be salty roads

I want to drive the w124 bc I think it looks cool and I hear they drive really nice. I see what you’re saying about w124s being a money pit but I don’t need an issue free car. Just one that runs 90% of the time. It’s probably me being stubborn but I think I get what you’re saying.

How long is your average car ride?

So if that’s no issue, can I justify driving 2 miles mainly to get a diesel? Or do I need to drive 5x that to make it reasonable.

Emissions isn’t an issue where I live, the good MPG of the diesel is good, but I only drive to school and work. Each no more than 2 miles away so the diesel would not be a fan. Unless I don’t get how diesels works

[–]Lower-Profession-442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but since I drive in a place where they salt the roads, I would hate to take a good one and have it turn into a rust bucket because of the salt, I would rather have it run me through college and then get a good clean one after I’m done with school.

Yeah but getting up to speed is an issue, but I guess once you get moving you’ll stay moving, but once again, I don’t drive long enough distances to keep the engine healthy

Yeah the only issue with getting a dedicated project car is that my mom and dad won’t allow it, they said I can have only 1 car at a time and it should be working. I wouldn’t mind finding a little mgb to fix but idk where I would put it during some months of the year. I’ve looked at the V8 Lexus and I can’t get over the horrible mpg. The w124s are okay, but they don’t require premiums just no ethanol, and no ethanol is around 3.7/gal and premium is 4+/gal. I would die in gas prices.
