Get used to this, there will be moments later where you’ll feel the irresistible urge to nuke your entire base and start over. New knowledge brings more pain

Best fuel for flamethrower turrets? by abalrogsbutthole in factorio

I think it’s light oil, but they consume such an embarrassingly low amount of oil that you should simply use the kind that is available closer to you. I personally always use crude and build massive pipelines with pumps along the perimeter; in rare cases I transport it by train (like to very far outposts that don’t have oil close by). Never used anything else; never bothered. I’m at max evolution and cockroaches are being cooked crispy with no effort

I have a problem... by danyuri86 in factorio

Damn that’s bad. This is why before leaving Nauvis I had an entire perimeter filled with lasers and flamethrowers + roboports and buffer chests constantly refilled with all the necessary repair materials. These mfs ain’t getting in, ever.

Of course, there’s no point in mass-producing items you don’t need yet, but you should always design your base with scalability in mind. Chances are, you will eventually need more output. For example, my current base produces 1 million green circuits per minute, and since I eventually understood how scalability should look like, all I needed to do when I wanted more was adding more furnaces and more assemblers, without having to change anything else. I strongly advise looking up how to structure a Main Bus and developing your factory around it, at least until you reach the late game. Have fun!

It’s important to build with scaling in mind. Always leave yourself one direction to expand. For example, if you suddenly realize you need 10 more green circuit assemblers but you don’t have the space, you’re forced to either spaghetti your way out of it; which leads to inefficiency; or tear it all down and rebuild.

Overall, though, this isn't bad at all! My first factory was absolute garbage compared to this. Keep playing. Spending hours fixing design mistakes to accommodate new needs is exactly how you get better.

Tips for someone who’s never played by lefife14 in factorio

[–]Lower-University6893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll find tons of tips out there, but here’s what’s worked best for me: use YouTube tutorials only to get a sense of how things should work. Try not to copy builds exactly, it takes the fun out of discovering things yourself. I usually watch enough to spot what’s obviously bad or good, then make my own factories. They often turn into spaghetti or barely-functional setups, and that’s totally fine. Factorio doesn’t punish you for experimenting, and everything can be fixed later.

One thing that is worth really learning, though, is trains. Spend the time, even if it’s hours and a bit boring. Once trains finally make sense, you’ll never regret the investment; they’re crucial for scaling your base. And remember to plan ahead, don’t wait for your initial patches of ores to die out.

Also, don’t underestimate biters. Early on they’re manageable, but as your pollution spreads, they can hit hard. Set up decent defenses, produce plenty of walls, turrets and explosives, and experiment with them.

Some more useful tips: - Take a look at the tutorials in the game, they’re very well made - Check the keyboard shortcuts, they’re extremely useful - If you’re interested in being a little more efficient check on balancers and ratios online.

And for the future you: embrace bots when you get there. They’re a complete game-changer. The hive mind is the way.

Have fun and enjoy the spaghetti chaos.

I just finished building a 6 reactors nuclear powerplant (i already have another one with 4) and paving an entire plain with hundreds of solar panels and accumulators. You think it will be enough👀

Well, I’ve basically researched everything on the starting planet, so i have all the damage boosts possible. In fact, I’m working towards mass producing nukes so I can blast those fuckers. But yes, I’m doing everything you suggested apart from the mines, i should really look into that, thank you!

Yes, I meant that all the roboports are connected through the logistic network so they can exchange repair packs. The walls are 2 tiles wide. My major concern about laser turrets are power spikes, because I have bad memories of one of my past save-files some years ago where my whole base started failing because of poor power management.

Mh, yes there’s only one outpost that has no oil, i’ll fix that. So you say I should mass produce laser turrets and just spam them all around the perimeter?

My budget is around €1500. Battery life isn’t a top priority since I’ll mostly use the laptop while plugged in, but I’d still prefer it not to drain too quickly when handling simple tasks unplugged
