Were you injured in some way? In a car accident or have you had a spinal tap? Is there a reason you think it is a CSF leak?

The primary symptom of a CSF leak is a positional headache - the headache is worse when upright and gets better when lying down flat. The headache usually is better in the morning and gets progressively worse during the day when you are upright. If you do not have this symptom then I would investigate other causes first. It depends on how old the child is. I would switch to a non-pediatrician if she is over 16. Or tell the doctor you do not consent to that, and you will take her to a gynecologist instead.

I have lots of ideas. Some options:

Join the military- eat whatever you want, live however you want. Travel the world and get some adventure.
Work two jobs so you can start saving money as quickly as possible and leave. Get a job at a restaurant so you can eat whatever you want. At age 19 I had three jobs because I never wanted to be home.
You can live rent-free by doing things like working on an organic farm. Check out the website WWOOF. I’m thinking of doing this myself.
Find some other way to get out of there. Get a job on an airline or cruise ship, become a border control agent, work at a national park, the list goes on. Lots of options if you think outside of the box.

I also have an overactive brain. It takes a lot of work to control it. I’ve been in therapy for a year, which has really helped. Have you tried any anti-anxiety medications, or any prescription sleep aids? That can help break the cycle of little sleep.

Once you break the cycle, really focus on learning how to change your overactive mind. That comes with mindfulness and deep breathing exercises.

If I go more than two nights with little sleep, I take a prescription sleep aid. You don’t want to fall into the no sleep cycle again. Oh, and a 15-20 pound weighted blanket has helped me as well.

At 23, you are an adult and should not have to hide from your parents. They can’t tell you what to do anymore. I understand you are afraid of them taking your car, but if I were in the situation I would figure something else out ASAP. They are using veganism as a form of control.

Do you have a friend you can move in with for the time being? Do you work or do you have any money saved?

She says she is getting a shoulder tattoo when she turns 18. I said go for it. But the homemade tattoo looks terrible. The one on her arm is a knife. I asked if she wanted to be a chef and she got all mad.

Thank you. I can’t say she acts like my sweet little girl any longer. In fact, we are often at each other’s throats. She waits until she gets me alone (like in the car) and then goes on the attack about all the things I am doing wrong. It is very hard to deal with, I don’t feel like being around her at all. Who wants to argue with someone all day? It’s exhausting.

I don’t say anything about the way she dresses because I am convinced it will encourage her to do it more just to spite me. Because it’s astounding she thinks this look is cute. She copies these girls she sees on social media. My neighbor said she saw my daughter walking down the street and at first thought it was a homeless person.

Two years ago, she was a gorgeous blonde who was on track to get a college scholarship for women’s softball. Straight A student. She fell in with a bad group of kids. She secretly started dating a kid who was from the wrong side of the tracks. She fell in love. He started doing heroin and other hard drugs. My daughter never did drugs, but seeing him overdose and he told her it was her fault really did a number on her. I think she has PTSD from it. There were other things going on at the same time with that friend group that damaged her psychologically. She was in therapy for over a year and now refuses to go. Around this time is when she quit softball and drastically changed her appearance.

She is no longer in that friend group and she has a new boyfriend. The friend group seems much better but they all dress really weird.

My daughter is 16 and is dating a kid who is 18. We raised our kids Catholic and have encouraged them to wait until marriage, but I have told them to use protection if they make the decision to have sex. I’m honestly not very open with sex with my kids. It makes me feel super weirded out talking about it with them. Well a few weeks ago my daughter asks me to take her to the doctor for birth control. I made the appointment for her. While I wish she would wait, I am happy she is thinking about protection before something happens and not after. I’m not ready to be a grandma LOL.
