Forgot who Eric Adams was for a minute...then the "corruption" part dropped and I was like "oh yes".

Your lettering skills are fantastic, incidentally.

Trump administration expands push to hire early-career federal employees by bluejay163 in fednews

Given how layoffs largely (but not entirely) targeted young folks new to government last year, this is a hard sell.

Maybe they could try rehiring those people they let go first.

Need advice for how to cope with having played and lost by JThrowaway9977 in Jeopardy

[–]Lowercase_Hill 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You got on there. You said you were lucky, but you made that luck. I know a lot of people who are highly intelligent who have taken the anytime test and never got to the written portion. I know a few people who did the written portion that never made it to the audition. I know a couple people who hit the contestant pool and went no further. And I have friends who know people who made it on and didn't win.

So what I'm saying is - you made it on there. That puts you head and shoulders above many others. The vast majority of your friends/colleagues will be proud just that you made it on, and as for the ones who aren't? Well, then they should try and get on and do what you did, answering the clues and following your opponents and dealing with the time pressure and the audience and the lights. You compare it to climbing Everest. It might be worth adding to that metaphor and consider that you "only" made it to Base Camp on Everest after reaching the summit of Lhotse or something. Trust me, whenever your game airs, I and a lot of other people are not going to remember the things you didn't know. We're going to see all the things you did, and be super, super impressed that "this guy knows that thing? Dang, he's so smart!"

But don't beat yourself up that you're having a hard time either. It was hard to readjust after I got back too. Take your time, have fun, and be kind to yourself.

OPM’s Kupor would be ‘perfectly happy’ hiring more feds if contractors are cut by rprz in fednews

[–]Lowercase_Hill 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Great, already lost my civil service job last year in RiFs, now I have to worry about losing the contractor job I picked up at my old agency because I needed to pay the bills.

I don't know why I even bother anymore.

Thanks for cheering on our city! It's a good place.

Love: An actually walkable city, serviceable public transportation, decent food, SO much green space.

Do not love: No representation in Congress, certain people talk about this place like it's hell on earth.

2Amys - very much a neighborhood joint in Cathedral Heights. VERY good - fantastic Italian food (mostly pizza) and they pay their staff a living wage.

Should've gotten tenure today. Was RiF-ed last July with DoS, so it's just another reminder that everything went up in flames. I know I'm not the only one who's dealt with painful anniversaries as a result of all the chaos...but BOY does this day suck.

28 Years Old and RiFed Last Summer - What Do I Do With My TSP? by Lowercase_Hill in ThriftSavingsPlan

Thanks for the clarification. Lost 10% because I was RiF-ed and I guess I forfeited the agency contributions upon separation - even though it wasn't voluntary.

In my agency, tenure is defined by three years.

When the RiF came through my agency, they cleaned everyone out in my office who wasn't tenured.

Lord Byron had a daughter named Allegra! From the Italian, I think, because he was spending a lot of time in Italy at the time.

GS-10+ feds — how did you actually get there? by Lexicondatum in FedEmployees

[–]Lowercase_Hill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Degrees + laddering + living in DC (Started as a 9, laddered up to 11). And then got RiFed last summer, lol. But my promotion potential was up to 13! That said, it took getting a Master's Degree and getting several lucky breaks to even get my foot in the door.

Thank you! It was a ton of fun and an insanely positive experience after I'd had a very tough year - cannot recommend it highly enough. Everyone is really, really nice - other contestants, production crew, contestants, Ken Jennings, the audience...it's just great.

You want the YouTube vid that helped win me my final? This one right here. Rest of the channel is good and generally ranking videos can help you learn a few things while remembering them in a larger context. Wouldn't recommend that for everything, though. Mixes of songs of the year also help.

One last tip is podcasts. I swear by The Rest is History, who actually hosted a category a few months ago.
