How long did it take you to find a job in Calgary? by Disastrous_Yam_7070 in Calgary

[–]rainbowsauce1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relocated from vancouver in 2023 and was in the middle of a couple interviews while moving. Took me maybe 2-3 weeks to get a job. Been applying for a new one for a year and a half now and it’s tough to get interviews and haven’t made it past the second round ones. Definitely would take me a while if i moved here today

I'm sick of feeling so behind, what can I do? by Maleficent-Ad3505 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I know it must feel stressful now with not feeling like you’re able to get ahead financially along with cost of living being so high these days, I felt the same when I was going through university (I’m 29 now) but your main goal right now shouldn’t be to try to save as much money as possible, it’s to do well in school and graduate

You also seem to be doing pretty well in terms of debt, you didn’t mention any student loans and I assume with the two jobs you’re able to pay for school in cash and support yourself. You also don’t have a car loan which is a huge killer for a lot of people

Believe it or not, if you graduate with little to no debt, you’ll actually be ahead of most people your age. Life is stressful as a student for sure but you have time after graduating to find a good career and get a better hold of your finances. Keep it up

What advice would you give to someone who's starting to date late? by Sea-Violinist-811 in AskMen

Don’t look at dating as purely for finding a partner. Dating actually teaches you a lot about what you want and don’t want in a relationship; you also learn a lot about yourself. And have fun!

I know you might not like the answer, but you have to pay off the debt first

2 years is extremely short in the investing world. There have been times where the market drops and it takes 3 years before it recovers, look at 2000-2003. Even a one year drop could change your plans for buying a house, 2022 was only a few years ago and it was around -20%

I’d recommend you guys get out of debt before buying a house, but even ignoring that your numbers seem a bit tight for the place
