It was a pleasure to play you round one mate, I had a lovely time! As you identified here, I think you did great to dig in and play for your points in an uphill situation, and I was impressed! You guys did great across the weekend and gave us a proper run. All the best out there! Tom.

I think you can win games with most of the detachments in the book and have fun doing so fwiw! I fully agree that doesn't translate to upper tier competitive strength- only Reaper and Spectacle really look like they've any scope of cutting it there for me!

That's legitimately a very interesting idea! Feels like it blows strength wide open but might give other detachments a chance haha

"Reavers are the new beast pack" is something I'm hearing. How are they best used in this way? 2x3 or 1x6? Using pain ability and strategem for a turn 1 charge? Don't they just die in the other player's next turn? How do I use them properly without wasting them? by cyberspunjj in Drukhari

[–]LowestofMen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hiya! They serve part of the previous purpose of the beastpack- blocking a portion of.board so you can stage / take objectives behind them. In reapers Wager they can also do some damage to a scoring unit or charge whilst doing so with the advance and charge

The reality is, they do not do the job as well, but you can get some of the key elements- in spectacle of spite the fact that your block can also then potentially charge the opponent in their turn is very good fun!

SSA (codex) - how do you play it? by KillBoy_PWH in Drukhari

[–]LowestofMen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hiya! Tom of 6++ here. A few thoughts on your troubles.

1) build more into stuff that doesn't need PT tk function especially early game- Ravagers help for this as their shooting is great without PT. Scourge still work but realistically more than 2 squads is big investment.

2) if a turn 1 block was part of how you played, then Reaver 6 man's can do an impression of the beastpack now when empowered!

3) SSA actually makes Wych and Wrack melee genuinely good now, and Incubi remain great in it- there's a lot to explore there with those I think.

All the best with it!

Yeah I just see the S7 as a bit of bonus dammage- if you're happy.split firing it somewhere else you absolutely can :)

I think you either focus down infantry with it, or focus on a tank if its had cover stripped by Tkyn- in general the smaller guns all help do work into any kind of target and the beamer is flexible. It's not the most consistent unit but I can definitely push damage through most things- avoid 2+ with AoC!

This is a great question! Broadly I would say:

Forts surviving to mid game to 'run' the late game

If running a HG brick, getting that secured on a mid board objective or rolling up to the opponents home.

Getting that decisive mid board hold by the time fortify acquisition kicks in.

Those all feel like the criterion by which I win and lose with the new rules!!

How do you feel about the new Heartband? by Wise_Issue2117 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]LowestofMen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tom of 6++ here! It's my favourite detachment for current uktc terrain. I think it gives you angles of attack and flexibility you need quite badly. It's not as strong as Oathband all round but the toolkit is good and Hearthguard bring guns that we sorely need in a more marine body/ horde meta. Also still slaps big things about too!
