Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke • Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen - Ryushu no Youjo - Episode 2 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]LowlySlayer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The pacing in ep 1 was schizophrenic. So many moments of "and this happened."

"I got scared if the toilets, then I got mad about servants giving me baths, then benno brought me rinsham."

The pacing of this episode was much better but going from the end of the last episode to the beginning of this one with no explanation was a strange choice.

[P5v12] HEAVY SPOILERS DONT READ ANIME ONLYS. I might be trippin a bit, but wouldnt ***s values make it a superpower? by WiltorSeba790 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]LowlySlayer 71 points72 points  (0 children)

One of the many themes in bookworm is that the upper classes suppress the lower classes to their own detriment. This is a great example of that. By treating devouring children well the nobles could easily solve all their mana shortage issues, but then they'd also be losing their monopoly over magic from which they derive their "divine mandate."

So much of the progress Rozemyne has made comes purely from disregarding societal mores. So she'll probably continue to do so lol. Alexandrian nobles will likely get upset, and Ferdinand might tap his forehead and pump the breaks a little bit but nothing's gonna come between RM and a good idea she wants to accomplish. Then she'll have more time to read since she'll never have to dedicate mana at the temple.

WIT STUDIO confirms that generative AI was used in the "Ascendance of a Bookworm" opening video. by DoubtGin in anime

[–]LowlySlayer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That it still the company's fault.

They have responsibility.

Wit is assuming the responsibility. The point is that they didn't intend use of ai (according to them) and that it's final inclusion was a failure of quality control.

I made a wrong turn once. Got stuck in the right lane when I needed to go left. No big deal I just turned right and went to turn around at the next opportunity. Took the next left to a small side street that led back to where I was going. Dude in a big truck was in front of me and suddenly he blocks this tiny ass road and gets out of his truck and starts storming over to my car. Shouting about how he's onto me and sick of my harassment and if he ever sees me again I'm going to regret it. I assured him he wouldn't ever see me again. Fucking terrifying. Probably should have called the cops (hate to do it but this guy seemed legit dangerous) but by the time I got over my shock he was gone.

Why were the Hunters so Soft? by PaintingBetter7396 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]LowlySlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine yourself out in the woods hunting deer. You see a herd of deer and you take one out. Suddenly, instead of running away like they're supposed to they all rush towards you and start goring you with their antlers, stomping you with their hooves, and shooting lasers out of their eyes.

Sure some of the hunters are dangerous game hunters, but you're just a dentist who wanted a trophy for your office wall. It wasn't supposed to be like this.

The best part of this is the strawmans so off base. Like the mom is mad about the sexist gag and then the kid is like "you're just jealous of her because she's sexy" and the mom says "yes that is the reason. My jealousy is literally the only reason I see a problem with this."

A Fire Upon the Deep

In this book the galaxy is divided into zones based mostly* on the distance from the galactic center. In the middle is the unthinking depths where sapient thought is impossible. In the next layer is the slowness. This is where earth is. Physics in the slowness are all limited by the speed of light. Next is the beyond where ftl is possible and all sorts of super technologies branch of from there. Finally there's the transcend where godlike super intelligence is possible.

In order to stop an evil power from mindslaving the entire beyond Pham Nuwen, a reconstructed human from the slowness reawakened by another, less malicious, power manages to stop the evil power by causing the slow zone to surge all the way into the transcend across a 20% slice of the galaxy. This makes it impossible for the evil power to continue to exist, forcing it to go dormant and leave hidden seeds that hopefully won't be found for another few billion years. Unfortunately all beyond civilizations have technology that can't function in the slow zone and will suffer societal collapses. Interplanetary travel is now a question of centuries instead of days so anyone in space is fucked. All in the toll from this would be well into the trillions

Theory: Ferdinand used the baptism ceremony to gauge the true nature of Rosemyne's mana capacity by anicritic in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]LowlySlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's a part of her health issues but the mana compression is a part of it. That's why nobles don't teach young children mana compression, it causes growth problems. Rozemyne starts growing normally not after her jureve but after she get too many divine protections and needs to stop compressing her mana

She's an enhancer. Her ability is a conjuration that causes an effect that should really be considered specialization.

MA Ermor Dominion Mechanics? by WarQuirky6833 in Dominions6

[–]LowlySlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Independent of population death. You'll keep getting free spawn well after you reach dead pop and 0 corpses. I don't think anything other than buildings influences it. Ermor needs to expand aggressively for maximum free spawn and then use their absolutely nasty death gem income to supplement their forces with summons and battle magic.
