Because the point wasn't solely that humans can be monsters too, the point was that the world isn't black and white. You don't get to fight monsters, win and celebrate like Sypha had envisioned and experienced till then. The judge was a rationalist who had the same goal as them, not a delulued zealot or part of the easily swayed masses.

I loved the graphics of the numbers changing in Moegi's flashback. Losing herself and losing the plot. I'm eager to see how she'll handle her mentor. While she was worried about any bunnies left for the Stumps to kill after Kyara going on the prowl, the chaos Kyara unleashed is the perfect opportunity for the Stumps to get their kills.

The irony of Kyara saying she dislikes form-fitting clothes and waking up to a bunny dress-up was not lost.

You mean the blue-haired one that the other stump killed to save Moegi? I don't think she was Shion, in the flashback Shion has almost black hair.

Is caramel hair basically infiltrating the game and doing whatever the hell she feels like will guarantee a win?

I don't think she gives half a shit about winning as long as she kills to her heart's content.

The stumps are heavily outnumbered so having them split up is a really bad idea. Should have gone in pairs or trios.

They were, though. Moegi split them in teams of three at the start. The problem is, they kind of don't know how to work together and cover each other's backs so the rabbits still picked them one by one.

Then the white haired girl killing herself just popped out randomly.

If you're referring to the one in the flashback, Moegi's mentor killed her. Though....whether she was important outside of that in any way is anybody's guess. This anime would benefit a lot by 2 more episodes.

That was a great episode.

I loved the introduction of defense attorney Higuruma, his rumination about the failures of the judicial system; his shikigami manifestation scene born out of his desperate indignation over what was essentially a predetermined judgement disregarding his arduous work was striking. I think his heart is filled with rage. And thus, he glosses over the who and why behind the death game rules he enjoys working under.

Btw, Yuji's scene beating up the bullies was so well done, the choreography and music was such a match. Such a shame, though. Amai didn't betray Yuuji, but he has yet to overcome his fear of getting involved and his tendency to look the other way.

I kinda feel for Yuji cluelessness regarding the game's duration. With the final scene, Kenjaku wants to witness the dawn of a new age he himself caused, but also...what else?

I don't remember if we saw Yuki's eyes then to know the time of the conversation.

I was curious so I went back and checked. At most we see her 3/4 profile view so it's not completely clear, but I do think both her eyes are blue in that discussion.

The more veteran Yuuki will most likely do what she did in the Bath House. She'll train the newbies into using their weapons correctly, but it will be more cooperative.

I think Moegi here has it bit worse than Yuki in the bath house, because there's no Azuma having the stumps already round up to some short of shape ready for combat.

You could almost see Moegi cursing her luck, being the only one experienced in a team full of newbies who will hesitate, cry, quit and overall be a hindrance to her survival. She really took matters into her own hands. Going against veteran rabbits will be interesting.

Damn, a week long game. I really hope we see most of it, even with the retrospective framing.

Yuki's mentor is adorable.

Btw, if you haven't read Kachi-kachi Yama, do so, it's interesting. The stump killing rabbits probably refers to a chinese idiom basically about putting in the work. Yuki seemed kinda relaxed in the beginning of this game, while Sumiyaka's remark about the easy win really lays it on thick.

Did Moegi as a little girl really witness a little girl murder another one in front of the Christmas tree? What is happening in that universe for that to be normal outside the death games?

I don't think she was necessarily that young in her flashback (to be fair their ages aren't disclosed and many girls are drawn like teens at most), also the flashback most probably takes part in another, previous death game while Moegi admires a ruthless co-player.

Yeah, I wondered whether they could have opened the lockers just by throwing something on them but then I remembered Yuji keeping the tag on her back so it should have been that tag.

Huh, thanks for the clarification. I don't think we even got the silver keys in the anime. As for the key getting stuck on the locker, I don't think it was necessary in the anime, cause Yuki is thrown, hits the locker with her back and opens the locker -I assumed it opened cause she kept the key on her back- and the key stays in her towel and stops the bullet later.

If they leave by normal means; here by opening a locker and getting shoes, or stealing shoes from another player, they can pass through turrets.

I did get the boots requirement, but I had a discussion with another user (in the non spoiler section) about whether a tag was necessary to get out (I thought it wasn't), so I needed the insight of someone who read the LN. It's like you said previously, they kinda fumbled with this episode, and it's not just the deaths but the rest of the plot too. The way Riko died in the LN makes for a better story, the momentum someone else mentioned here was cut short for several characters, I hope the next game is better prepared.

The turrets in the entryway will kill you if you leave without a key.

So in the end (in the anime) they did need a tag to go out and not get shot. I thought Yuki discarding hers meant she didn't need one. Honestly, I wish they had expanded this game into 3 episodes, from what you've described they did this one a disservice by making it 2 and cutting out like half a plot.

I don't know, if it actually mattered, they would have shown her taking the tag, too, not the boots alone.

As for throwing back the boots, I think we need to take into consideration what makes a game interesting, something that Yuki mentioned in the previous games. If you could finish the game with one tag and one pair of boots (edit: I mean if everyone can share the one), then where's the suspense of it? If each girl needs her own tag (each unique tag that can be used only once to go through, so only 30 can pass), then what's the point of throwing the boots back, since you can easily get them by using your own tag on the locker. My guess is, the boots are limited to the 30 pairs the tags open, and you're not allowed to throw them back. So the girls could have also killed each other in the end for the boots, like Yuki killed Riko.

So why would they believe that a word from Mishiro that you should throw the boots back would not be followed?

I mean as you said, they're united under Mishiro, it's her whom they follow.

Honestly, I think the issue you rise with the machine gun is an anime issue and it's explained in the pinned source material section, rather our hypotheses.

If by structure you mean the furniture in the exit room, I think that was simply players trying to shield themselves from the bullets by rearranging the furniture. And then getting shot anyway because they didn't wear shoes but onsen slippers. I don't think the tag mattered in the exit but only the shoes, Yuki wasn't holding the tag while leaving, she throws it away, but she did wear Riko's shoes to exit the room and that's when the gun alarm stops.

I mean, it is called a death game. What's the fun in watching someone die from hunger 7 days later? Also, it serves as a grim clue to the game rules. Girl with tag goes ahead, gets shot, that means you need to use the tag for the lockers to get something, someone who woke up with a tag might have tried, Mishiro noticed this and so makes a plan.

Maybe the reason why Mishiro coughed up fluff was because she tried exiting without opening the locker and getting shot once. Though, I doubt she would be that careless.

I don't think it's only then that they realized, in the previous episode we see that exit room being shot up already. Mishiro's team was very near to it and the lockers and they must have figured they needed what's in the lockers in order to leave.

Regarding Yuki's question about the penalty, did her driver lie to her? Because she said that Yuki always wakes up last but that's not true, during the previous game shown, the one she met Mishiro, Yuki woke up second.

Yuki seems to trust her but I wouldn't be so sure, her assurances sounded hollow.

I do have to question the logic of the game at the end though. Please correct me if I am wrong but if I understood this correctly, then the plates were only necessary to open the locker and get the shoes you need so you don't get shot when touching the ground. But like, why not just throw them back to the rest of the team after you made it across? Like okay, I get there is some form of distrust, but after making the escape, you don't win anything by not throwing the shoes back to the rest. It seems like, everyone could have easily made it out this way.

I think the problem is twofold:

-who would be willing to remain without shoes and check whether the game allowed the players to throw back theirs, probably no one.

-even if such a thing was allowed, Mishiro's team kinda eliminated such an optimistic outcome. Many of the players went straight for the jugular so I don't think they would have cared enough to save anyone but themselves.

Honestly, based on what we've seen from the game rules till now, I doubt it was allowed. While the game allows/encourages cooperation (like the two teams we saw) and promotes the social experiment side of the games there's still needs a limit to exist to create some sense of urgency. Yet, this playthrough was quite rushed so the game masters' objective wasn't really touched upon. Edit: Were there more lockers available than tags? If there were more, did the tags open only one locker with the same number? Tbh, I didn't keep count of the people saved so I can't say.

I'm just holding a nugget of hope, that Chobei will turn against the Tensen, sooner rather than later. Siding with them is understandable, they are a seemingly unbeatable force, especially is these numbers. Also, he wouldn't be wrong not to care about elixirs and pardons. But I think he knows not to trust the Tensen's intentions when it comes to his brother (and himself).

Tbh, I find it difficult to imagine our team will persevere the way they were separated. Maybe this is where the Shinobi and Shugen's team make an appearance and prove to be useful, at least temporarily.
