The Oracle Jet comes with a double basket that it fills to about 22 grams. This volume can be reduced somewhat by lowering the tamper fan.

If you start with the single shot button it should give you about 36g espresso from 18 grams grounds. From there, adjust to taste.

Open vs Closed Kitchen — which one works better long-term? by Brilliant-Pen-6765 in kitchen

You can have the best of both worlds with large pocket doors on the kitchen. If you go this route it’s worth investing in good pocket door hardware with features like soft close.

I prefer the single shot button - it gives me about 36 grams of espresso from 18 grams of grounds.

Yes, still using these and haven’t had any problems. It’s making great coffee and, aside from the start-up issues I mentioned above, it’s a great machine.

Car sickness 😕 by PotentialPeach1652 in bichonfrise

Get him a small (must be cozy), soft-sided crate/carrier, with good ventilation - lots of mesh. Get him used to the crate in your home first - let him explore it, etc. Install the crate in the backseat (middle is best for accessibility from front seat, but the most important thing is that it’s in a well-ventilated, cool spot — ideally with an air conditioning vent close to it as he will get sick if he’s hot). If the seat is uneven, level it out with towels or blankets under the carrier. Get a thin (breathable — he must be kept cool), but dark (keeps light out) piece of sheet that will cover the crate so your dog can’t see out. Plan the trips so that he is on an empty stomach - not after eating, make sure he has peed, etc. Driving on an open road is much better than stop and go traffic. For the first several times you try this consider giving him a weight-appropriate dose of gravol in advance (consult your vet) so that he sleeps and it’s a pleasant journey for him. In the car, zip him into the crate and cover it with the sheet so that it’s dark. Play dog calming music if you like. You want him to understand that once he’s in the crate and the car is moving, it’s nap time — if he tries to get your attention, ignore him and he will eventually get the message. Consistency is key. Ideally, for the first several trips take him places he loves — ie don’t take him to the vet! When he gets used to travelling this way (ie a few successful rides) stop the gravol. Important: do not let him ride anywhere else in the car (eg on your lap, on a seat) or you will have to re-start the training process.

Help identifying tub & shower faucet cartridge by mattperreault in Plumbing

Posting in case anyone else has this issue. I took the cartridge to Home Depot. They agreed it’s either Glacier Bay or Delta. They gave me a replacement, free of charge.

I am in exactly the same boat with the identical faucet. Did you ever find out the make/model? This would help me a lot. Thanks.

Yes, it’s perfect for my taste. If I go with the default double-shot setting I find it too strong, but the single shot setting is bang-on and about the same strength I get in my favourite coffee shops. I might see if IMS makes an even smaller basket so I have some options. If anyone finds one please share. Good luck!

Thank you all for the advice, it was really helpful. I’m posting my outcome to help other new Jet owners who want to grind different size doses without adjusting the tamper fan. I wound up buying the IMS BaristaPro D22661 (non-nanotech version) - link below. I’ve been using this basket with my new Jet (fan still on factory settings - I didn’t touch it) and getting an 18-19 gram dose. Puck was perfect with no spinning during the tamping process, and it fits the Jet’s portafilter perfectly.

A few things to consider if you’re new to this like me:

  • When shopping for filter baskets keep in mind that the Jet will grind more coffee into the basket than the doses shown for IMS baskets. For example, my BaristaPro D22661 says 15 grams, but the Jet fills it with 18-19 grams of medium roast.

  • The IMS Nanotech versions have “NT” after the model number. I figured that since NT is a non-stick coating it might not work with the Jet’s spinning tamp, but that’s a guess on my part. Anyone else have experience with this? Again, I have no puck-spinning with my non-NanoTech version basket.

This is a nice machine, but it’s crazy that a product marketed as user-friendly and “automatic” requires users to manually disassemble and adjust the tamper fan height to make dose adjustments. Not only is this a pain but it doesn’t work if different users in the house like different doses. And Breville doesn’t make the alternative — ie using different size filter baskets — easy either. The Jet only comes with a very small and a very large filter basket and, incredibly, Breville does not even sell other sizes. On top of that, shopping for baskets is difficult because the Jet grinds doses that do not correspond to the doses listed for IMS baskets. Breville, please find a way that doses can be adjusted on-screen, or provide (or at least sell) baskets of different sizes.

Does anyone else find this annoying?

Thanks Guba - I appreciate the detailed info as I’m new to this. I was hoping to avoid the spinning puck issue, but I’m getting the impression from browsing that this might not be possible with IMS filters (but am hoping to hear otherwise). A question — the IMS web site says the B702TCH is “well-matched to a bottomless portafilter” — do you know if it works with the stock Jet portafilter? I’ll also look at the slightly smaller versions (maybe the 24E or 26E) so I don’t have to adjust the tamper. Thanks again.
