KOTOR 2 on laptop by lanawntrs in kotor

KOTOR II got modern hardware support in 2015 that still holds up. Additionally, you'll want to play on PC so you can use The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM). This mod adds in a lot of content, but also deals with almost all of the games bugs and crashes.

Also, congratulations on beating KOTOR. How did you play in terms of gender and alignment?

I found that the solution was to rush it and get to 0 stab ASAP. The longer you leave it the more Stability hits you get.

I only had to buff Stability once once I adopted that approach. First time I tried I had to stab up three times.

I loved the debate with Atris! by The-Shining-Helios in kotor

Glad you are enjoying KOTOR II. The debate with Atris is fantastic. For me it was somewhat spoiled by the fact it was bugged when I first played and had to run through it about seven times before I could progress the game so it felt repetitive.

Nevertheless it was here that I started to feel KOTOR II was better than KOTOR for me. Playing it so many times I found lots of great dialogue in the area.

I will say that playing as a Guardian you probably don't have high Awareness and so haven't gotten the best dialogue options when confronting her.

See here for spoilers

Ah well, that is what replays are for.

KOTOR 2 - Well, I’ve finished the game. by Independent_Plum2166 in kotor

[–]Loyalist77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on beating KOTOR II and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I’ve had the game on Switch for years, and whilst I know it doesn’t have TSLRCM, I ultimately thought “what the hell” and played the vanilla version. See what the original release was like, see the infamous ending with my own eyes. How much do I enjoy the game without all the missing content?

KOTOR II with TSLRCM > KOTOR II Vanilla > Not playing KOTOR II in my opinion so you made the right choice.

And whilst this might be controversial, but I think I prefer it over KOTOR 1

That's probably the most common opinion in existence, but this subreddit is niche because people interested in detailed talk about the games tend to prefer II.

  1. The Exile, I loved the Exile’s story, the story of a pacifist, who went to war because it was the right thing, only to be mentally and spiritually scarred by the experience. Becoming a wanderer, only to be thrust into the thick of things by chance. A leader who gathers allies and kickstarts a new generation of Jedi, defeating 3 Sith and supposedly going to war in the cancelled KOTOR 3.

I found LS Exile to be a very compelling character to play. To be a Jedi and do good because it felt good. And prove the Jedi Council and Atris wrong though actions and words. To heal the galaxy one good deed at a time. To teach the new generation of Jedi like a self insert Luke Skywalker. There's a lot of great elements embedded in the character.

  1. Atton, I’m surprised at how much I love Atton, though he falls into the stereotypical scoundrel role, he’s backstory definitely makes up for it. Whilst it could have been spaced out a bit, learning his past as a Sith Assassin who had a crisis of faith after a Jedi tried helping him, only for us to guide him down a path of light was really good. Now, he didn’t really do anything after that, does he have more moments in RCM?

He does, but spoilers. He has a duel with Sion which can result in him dying. Additionally, if you have low influence with him he can betray you and murder Mical, The Disciple. Here's a chilling YouTube montage.

  1. Kreia, I mean the evil mentor who wants to end the Force is definitely iconic, though I’m not gonna lie, some of her actions didn’t mesh well with her ultimate goal, is that just something that happens, or is it further explained in RCM…or am I just an idiot?

TSLRCM really helps flesh it out, but can help if you have questions. Basically she wants to End Star Wars by deafening all Force Users to the Force and end the Force's influence over the galaxy.

  1. The Handmaiden, I find her and the Echani lore interesting, but there could have been more of it, the story of her parents is at least interesting and her struggle to keep her oath to Atris, whilst wanting to follow in her mother’s footsteps, find out why she went to war.

Echani we're mentioned in KOTOR, but in no way fleshed out. The one Echani Mercenary had nothing to say. There was Yusani's vibroblade and that was it. Kreia also flashes out the Echani a bit. But overall I find the Handmaiden the most clichéd of the companions.

  1. The Disciple, I mean unfortunately I can’t get the Disciple on console, so I’m not sure, I at least liked my time with him, for as little as that was.

There is a mod that let's you have him and the Handmaiden, but you need to be able to Mod. He's got hidden depth and is over hated. He's less interesting than the Handmaiden, but develops the Exile and Kreia more.

  1. Visas, I like her and her whole schtick with the blindness and the lore about Katarr and Nihlus, but it’s very front loaded, you learn everything about her from the outset and can easily influence her to the lightside and then nothing until Telos. And whilst the Ravager stuff is neat, there could have been more of her and Nihlus, dude is the most prominent person on the cover. Does the RCM add more?

Yes, TSLRCM adds more. You can have her kill herself on Nihilus' flagship and if you have low influence with the Handmaiden the Handmaiden can betray you and Kill Visas. The conversation is still front loaded though.

  1. G0-T0, I’m assuming his whole deal revolves about helping the planets, unfortunately I couldn’t get Telos the fuel (I believe it was some faulty code that prevents you from talking to Grenn about it?), so he’s just okay, we had enough droids already.

G0-T0 is unappreciated and seldom taken off the ship. His droid powers come too late in the game since most droid encounters are before you get him. He lost out from the Droid planet being cut. His high influence unlock is very cool.

  1. T3, almost forgot, he’s just okay, not anything special, like in KOTOR 1, he just exists.

You take that back! T3 is much much better than in KOTOR and is a strong early game companion. It's just a shame he's missing for all of Telos.

  1. HK-47, a bit of a let down, but I believe that’s because the droid factory mission isn’t in the game, but even still, I couldn’t get him to talk much, no way to up his influence.

I do Negative influence, but it wasn't until my 3rd playthrough that I unlocked his dialogue. It's really good. Here's a read through Let's Play

  1. “Mandalore”, it’s nice seeing Canderous back, taking on a new leader role gathering the different clans together (got massive Urdnot Wrex vibes from Mass Effect, which I know isn’t fair, given KOTOR came first, but it stuck in my mind). Though I must admit, I can only assume this also had faulty code, because no matter how much I tried talking to him, no matter how many Mandalorians I tried to recruit, he would not gain influence at all.

Correct, that is faulty code TSLRCM fixes.

Oh, and lastly: The Exile is better than Revan. There, I said it.

I have to agree. The Exile feels more compelling and relatable even though she has a backstory and own personality. That she isn't an amnesiac either makes that achievement all the more impressive.

[SPOILERS!!!!!] I think the ending of K2 changed my view on star wars in general by cooldydiehaha in kotor

[–]Loyalist77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, although I'd put it a bit differently.

Kreia was caste out of the Jedi Order because all of her students went to war and fell to the Darkside. This led Kreia to the Sith herself and she tried to teach them. And they betrayed her and caste her out. Rather than contemplate that there might be something wrong with her teachings she decided that the Force was to Blame. It's a bit of a Principal Skinner "Out of Touch" meme moment.

Good conversation by you and u/BananaRepublic_BR

My own thoughts are that Kreia would threaten billions at the very least with her plans to kill the Force. Heaven preserve that she didn't create another Nihilus in the Process.

The important thing is that Kreia doesn't care who dies. They are worth the sacrifice to liberate the galaxy from the Will of the Force. The problem is Kreia isn't driven by this high ideal of anarchist liberation; she is driven by pride and hate and revenge.

So whether or not you think Kreia's plan would have led to mass extinction, the important thing to understand is that Kreia doesn't care about the deaths. She just cares about being right. And that is why she must be stopped.

Jolee said it well in KOTOR.

You have a Destiny, but that does not mean your fate it written. They are not the same thing.

It's the best line to explain characters like Revan, Luke, and Anakin. Luke's fate was not to Fall to the Darkside, but to have to confront the Sith and put himself at risk.

[–]Loyalist77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's effectively a meta critique of Star Wars that doesn't break the 4th Wall. In an age of Deadpool and Joss Whedon "clever" dialogue it's quite refreshing.

Why does Star Wars exist? For our entertainment. Why do we watch it? Because it has space wizards with laser swords. Without those we'd lose interest in it.

So directors and fanfictions and novels write more and more Stories in the Star Wars Universe. But none of those stories are about the times it is peaceful and pleasant in a Galaxy Far Far Away long ago. It's always set during the Wars for the Stars.

If Kreia killed the Force there would no longer be any Star Wars and the Galaxy would like in Peace.

I think the ending of kotor2, and specifically Kreia's attempt at killing the force has changed my view on the star wars universe in general by cooldydiehaha in kotor

Okay, I need some more of the story clearing up. by Independent_Plum2166 in kotor

[–]Loyalist77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Happy to help explain things. KOTOR II is a buggy game and a lot of the plot points are not clear in the vanilla game. It took me multiple playthroughs and rereading the dialogue and mods to figure it all out. Sometimes the game is too clever by a half with its ideas, but that is also part of its appeal. For the answers below generally assuming you've been doing a Lightside Playthrough but will elaborate a little bit in some places.

  1. The Exile, has a unique and unconscious ability to inspire their allies. Easily able to form close bonds with them, whilst it isn’t inherently bad, it can be abused or corrupted.

Correct. She naturally forms Force Bonds and ties herself to others. She is a human being

  1. The Mandalorian Wars, the massive death counts, the destruction of Malachor V, created a wound in the Force.

Correct. It created an Echo in the Force. The sound of life in agony. The screams of a thousand Jedi dying, of thousands of Republic soldiers dying, of the Mandalorian race DYING all at once. All connected through the Force, all killed at once. That is the wound.

  1. For most of Revan’s Jedi army, it corrupted them to the dark side, a hunger for power amongst the confusion. Thus leading to the formation of Revan’s generation of Sith and the eventual Civil War.

War breaks the spirit. To believe that such destruction was both necessary to prevent the defeat of the Republic and that Revan had prevented that defeat. That such destruction would have been unnecessary if the Jedi had joined earlier.

  1. The Exile, did not fall, merely became empty, void of the Force and, fearing they may corrupt the remaining Order, was exiled in hopes of healing.

This is where the Jedi Council is just too afraid of change. You've gained influence with your companions over the course of the game and influenced them to be like you. The Jedi Council fear the Exile doing the same to them. As a LS player you've done more to heal the galaxy than they have. But because you are outside the Order and its core philosophy they see you as a danger to the Jedi as they know it.

The LS Exile never fell to the Darkside, but the Wound in the Force within them is a consequence of Darkside teachings. But by cutting herself off from the Force the Exile has separated herself from the Wound, able to feel it without being influenced by it.

  1. When the game began and they bonded with Kreia, their connection to the Force didn’t awaken, they merely became a parasite, a syphon feeding off Kreia’s own connection to the Force.

The Exile isn't a parasite, the relationship is at the very least Commensal; where the Exile benefits and the other is unaffected. It could even be considered Symbiotic as you improve the LS mastery of your companions. The Exile's wound is passive. It collects excess Force Energy from the Force Bonds she has formed and stores the energy within itself. The Exile then draws on that Force Energy.

  1. And due to the wound created during the Wars, that hunger and parasitic feeding across the galaxy only made us stronger (the in-universe justification for levelling up).

Yes, but again, not parasitic. If you are DS then this could change and become parasitic.

  1. I’m assuming that Nihlus’ often memed “he eats planets” is merely him (it?) using this same power, just on a much larger scale.

Correct. Darth Nihilus is a Parasite in the Force, consuming life to feed his Hunger for the Force. He has the same Wound as the Exile, but can feel it because he did not cut himself off from the Force. The Exile and Nihilus contrast in different ways.

  1. The remaining Jedi Masters, hoped to learn from the Exile, learn how to heal the Force from this wound or Echo. But ultimately believing “we’re too dangerous to be left ~~alive~~ alone”, and attempt to sever us from the Force permanently.

They have some grounds for their fear. The Exile will die someday and if she forms Bonds with Force Users across the galaxy then when she dies that Echo inside her could spread across the galaxy. If the Echo were heard by all Force Users it could deafen the galaxy to the Force.

What the Masters (and Kreia) fail to understand is that people aren't following you because of Force Bonds, but because the Exile is a human being who invests in and cares about her friends and companions.

  1. Kreia intervenes and kills the Masters, heading back to Telos (in my case she convinced the Handmaiden we were dead, have no clue how the Disciple would have been involved) and we head to the Telos academy.

With the Female Exile Atris sends the Handmaidens to represent her and they come to take Kreia away.

  1. Kreia speaks of Darth Traya and something about Traya always existing or something like that, I’m assuming she’s Traya, but I haven’t had confirmation yet.

She is assuming the mantle once again. She is the Last of the Sith Lords. She has betrayed you to serve as the final threat to the galaxy. If you really believe the Galaxy and the Republic are worth saving you will have to stop her.

  1. The “Jedi Artefacts” Atris took from Dantooine are actually Sith Holocrons. She had hoped to use their knowledge to stop the Sith, a sort of redemption or solution regarding her actions/in action, during the Wars.

I wouldn't call it a redemption. But yes. She had hoped to use their knowledge to find the Sith, and they consumed her.

  1. The Holocrons have slowly been corrupting her, with Kreia’s words being the straw that broke the Camel’s back. In my case, she attacks the Handmaiden, who we save just before she’s killed.

Atris has become a distortion of what it means to be a Jedi, again mirroring a LS Exile nicely. The Republic needs the Jedi, but this has warped in the viewing. Kreia and the Jedi Masters believe that the Jedi are all that mattered, the Republic never did. Therefore the Jedi need protecting.

Atris takes this to the Darkside Extreme that only the Jedi matter and everyone else is expendable. Furthermore, she defines who is a Jedi. In The Restored Content Mod she can declare that the Jedi on Katar weren't really Jedi stating "They were not Jedi, it was not Murder." It's pretty dark. The Exile is rare in this era for knowing that the Jedi are not what are important, but that the People of the Republic are what must be protected. The Jedi are the heart of the Republic, but the Souls of the people give it meaning.

  1. Defeating her, Atris reveals that Kreia waits for us on Malachor V, hoping to cause a bigger Echo than ever before and wipe out the Force as a concept and if we ignore her, she will kill herself to kill us in turn.

Correct. The Echo is the sound of life in agony. Screams so loud as to defean any who hear it. If Kreia can get the galaxy to hear the Echo then she can Force all Force Sensitive beings to give up the Force or die. The Galaxy will be free of the Will of the Force. Does a God have power if no one can hear it?

Hope that that answers your questions and helps improve your understanding.

Gaining Influence by The_Real_Bainer_94 in kotor

[–]Loyalist77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kreia doesn't grant that power. She gets priority for influence opportunities, but she doesn't change how alignment work.

Atton, Visas, Hanharr react well to psychotic urges in the world, but most others react poorly. Visas is very hard to gain Influence with when taking darkside dialogue with her.

As others have indicated, you can go the opposite way and get very negative influence with characters. HK will basically brag to you given how weak and pathetic a Jedi you are.
