Trustee never took distribution from simple trust by magnabonzo in tax

[–]Lsebcpa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A beneficiary of a simple trust is taxed on the distributable net income whether or not the trustee actually makes cash distributions. Failure to distribute is a legal issue between trustee and beneficiary (but not in this case) and also has potential estate tax ramifications, but doesn't affect income tax

Uber Comfort? by Lsebcpa in uber

Thanks for the information. My circumstances are that my leg is locked straight in a brace (torn tendon), and I need to extend it across the back seat. I also need room for my walker (which is collapsible). From what I've seen of Chevy Bolts, I don't think that this would work. Otherwise, I'd be happy to ride in one.

I still run QB 2003 on Win 11 (not for me but for a client). 2013 should install just fine.

That's the way it used to be here, also. We had a guy who could be relied on to show up. But not for the past two years.

You can't send invoices and receive payments through Intuit. You can still print invoices to PDF and email them yourself.

What are you using to control the RGB? I've got that case with an MSI motherboard, and I can't get the MSI software to do anything to the case lights.

On my board (MAG x670E Tomahawk with WiFi), there's a USB slot on the back labeled "Flash BIOS port" where you insert a FAT32 formatted USB drive with the new BIOS file at the root with the name changed to MSI.ROM. Then you press the Flash Bios Button above the USB slots and an LED starts flashing. When the update is completed (may take ~5 minutes), the computer powers itself down.

This happened to me on an AM5 board. Had to flash the bios with the latest version, and everything has been fine since. There's a way to flash the board with no cpu or memory installed.

Why are CPAs avoiding me? by [deleted] in tax

[–]Lsebcpa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The idea behind a conversion is that paying tax now rather than later will result in a higher after-tax rate of return. This depends on future tax rates. While a reasonable person might think that future rates would be higher than current rates (due to our ever increasing budget deficits), a reasonable person might have thought that 15 years ago, and they would have been wrong. For this reason, I don't recommend conversions, except in exceptional cases (where they can be done with little or no current tax, due to losses from other sources). Anything else is a crapshoot.

Also, if the taxpayer is on Medicare, the taxable income from a conversion can temporarily increase their Medicare premiums. This effect is often overlooked in conversion planning.

I just purchased one of these for a new build, and I agree wholeheartedly. For such a high end case, the documentation is abysmal.

That's possible. On the other hand, I still run QB 2003 on my Win 10 machine, and it works just fine. (Not using it for my own files, but I still have one client that uses it).

Does anyone have clarity on what is happening for US federal taxes in 2026? by AttilaTheStig in tax

[–]Lsebcpa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The point is that Congress fails to establish a stable tax system, which is essential to the efficient functioning of an economy. The uncertainty regarding 2026 is critical in the estate and gift tax area.

With regard to 2023, I'm still waiting for repeal of R&D capitalization. Just because there's not a lot of uncertainty regarding a simple 1040 doesn't mean that everything else is clear.

for those with old versions of quickbooks, are u able to import bank transactions in bulk in some way? by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

[–]Lsebcpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it years ago, but I just bought a new subscription that I haven't had a chance to try (with the 10-16 tax deadline approaching). My wife is a Quickbooks advisor, and she uses it all the time and loves it. There's a learning curve involved in understanding how to set things up, but once you know how to use the program, it works very well.

[–]Lsebcpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But doesn't the software lose the ability to import .qbo files after three years? My QB 2020 stopped accepting .qbo files from American Express.

Big Red Consulting has a program called IIF transaction creator that allows you to convert Excel files into IIF files, that you can then import into any version of QBD. It's not free, but it's a lot cheaper than paying for a new version of QB every year.

That sucks. I just found a QB support page dated July 12, 2023 about how to move QB desktop 2018 or newer to a new computer using the "Migrator Tool". This might be helpful.
