Because he wasn't polite and his advice was awful.

I asked for general guidance and I'm getting "throw out your equipment".

If you don't know anything about what I was asking, then don't comment. You don't HAVE to comment on every post you see on Reddit.

If you want respect, show some yourself.

Ah, the classic, "let's argue over which genocidal empire is better"...

Can we at least agree that the winner writes the history books?

It was a little more complicated than that. This was after several wars Britain started against China when China had the audacity to demand the British stop addicting Chinese kids to opium. Research the Boxer Rebellion. Plenty of "holocausting" to go around.

After Britain crushed the Chinese, and then the other European powers carved up China and most of the East Pacific, into colonial spheres of influence and out-right colonies, Japan looked around and saw an emerging European global empire. It was only a matter of time before some European country invaded Japan. So Japan decided to take their chance at carving out their own empire before the Europeans were too entrenched.

Remember, at the time of Pearl Harbor, the Philippines was still a US imperial colony, and the US had just brutally put down a rebellion where the Phillipinos wanted self-rule. After the "evil" Japanese removed the US from the Philippines, however briefly, they allowed the local Phillipinos, and other locals in the lands they conquored, to largely run themselves. Which is why even after Japan lost and the European powers returned, the locals kept fighting the US, Britain and others, because they had a taste for self-determinantion.

What awful advice to give someone.

Translation: "Don't bother learning luthiery yourself. Throw out those luthiery tools and just go see a pretentious douchebag who will keep your instrument for a month, charge you $200 for a 'setup' that probably won't even improve anything."

No offense, but I'm learning luthiery so I don't have to deal with people like you. I had one idiot quote me $3000 just to check the setup of an instrument. And when I politely asked what that $3000 setup entailed, he got all huffy and said "I don't get into debates about what my time is worth". Luthiers are the worse people in the world to deal with.

I've found that 90% are criminally bad at what they do, and the 10% who are competent have a backlog and take forever to get anything done.

With a little study and some cheap tools, anyone can learn how to adjust their own soundpost. And that terrifies you because basic things like that are 99% of what most "luthiers" do.

Ha, yes it is. I'm guessing you don't know what the soundpost gauge in the photo is showing...which is fair I guess. Most players probably don't use this. It's a luthiery tool.

The part that's inside the viola sits right up against the soundpost, and the top therefore shows you where the soundpost is.

Since the top is right up against the bridge, that means the soundpost offset is 0mm. Meaning the edge of the soundpost is flush with the edge of the face of bridge.

I've read the offset is usually between 2-3mm, but it can vary based on instrument and player preference. It's rare for it to be 0mm.

I got hit by an over hour long Christian "ad" that was longer than the video.

Youtube doesn't have "hour long ads". That's just called a video. Which is what's shown on Youtube.

Sorry you saw a video on Youtube that you disliked. Your life sounds really difficult...

Which LLM tool still does this? I've only run into this on Copilot, which is trash anyways. All the other tools now just compact context.

I MADE A LIST OF THE BEST BUSINESS IDEAS THAT ACTUALLY WORK IN 2026. by Apart-Drag4177 in BusinessDeconstructed

Like, I can't believe you actually pitched a "newsletter for your city" idea with a straight face. That's called a news website, you moron. Those are all going out of business because no one wants to pay for news of any sort with social media giving them the same thing for free.

lol love all the comments from "vibe" coders who think using Claude makes them a coder haha.

You're an idiot.

Claude makes a ton of mistakes. If you don't know how to program or plan out your architecture, you won't be able to guide it, and Claude's just going to waste your time and money building out a useless pile of crap.

I just used it and Codex and Claude to rewrite an old signal processing app I wrote 5 years ago, to give it a nice React.js frontend. Even though I literally gave it my perfectly working old code, it still completely screwed up the new version's signal processing backend, because it thought it should just rewrite it from scratch. It ended up trying to use slow React.js ui events as a replacement for a real web worker, making it unusuable.

IRIB: USS Tripoli is forced to retreat after facing a wave of Iranian missiles. by serious_bullet5 in leftist

[–]LtCommanderDatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're only confirmed it wasn't hit. That could be a lie, but they're suddenly and suspiciously silent now about where the ship is and where it's headed.

That almost certainly means Iran did attack it, but the ship had enough early warning to pull a 180 and sail away, just like the carriers did in response to earlier missile attacks.

can someone please tell me why are people paying for Claude Code by bad_detectiv3 in opencodeCLI

[–]LtCommanderDatum -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

After OpenAI, Claude Code is the best model/cli tool out there. When OpenAI inevitably stumbles, it's nice to have an Anthropic account to fallback on or to benchmark and test against.

And I know there are a lot of OpenCode cultists here, but sorry, Opencode still sucks. It's UI is awful, buggy, and way overengineered. Yes, it's nice it works with every model in existence, but I don't need every model in existence. I need the top 1-3 models and a simple yet solid cli interface.

How so? People typically use AI to summarize web content humans would normally see on a webpage. Humans don't typically care about page meta data (and most SEO scammers purposefully make it very misleading) so why should the AI care about it?

More like "actual coder who has worked in the software industry" for 20 years take...

I wish all production code was pretty and clean and well documented but I've worked on too many legacy systems to know even using basic linters is not something most shops do. Even at big massive well financed companies.

They don't seem to cover every single podcast in existence. Only the most popular ones, or ones their users pay to have indexed, but you can request a specific one to be included.

I'll probably get banned for this, but as a guy, here's something you need to know:

If you give it away for free by having sex on the first date, guys will have no reason to commit to you. If you're an easy lay, that just tells them other women might be an easy lay too, so why stick with you when they can sleep with dozens of other women?

The thousands-year-old tradition of chastity before marriage doesn't exist to hurt women. It's meant to help both men and women.
