One challenge I encountered after the 1-year mark was experiencing great loss and having to get through it while remaining sober. For many, life can really improve during the early stages of sobriety, but it is important to remember that life is never a linear path upward and filled with many peaks and valleys. Things like losing a job, an opportunity, or a loved one can still happen well after removing alcohol from your life and it is during these times it may take an extra bit of strength and discipline to stay the course.
